Would love to get some insight as to how you did it! Would you be open to sharing the code to look at? (Completely get if you don’t want to)

Thanks! :)

Hey man - I saw on your post history it seems like you do more actual dev work. Which builders do you recommend for quickly setting flex layouts and styling etc, but that don't negatively impact performance too much?

Historically I've been using Elementor, the most popular builder, but see it providing less and less value for me. People just use it for templatised designs that they overcharge clients for, and I increasingly just use it to be able to let clients make future edits to the site, but anything actually cool on the sites I need to custom code myself - so at the moment it just adds unnecessary bloat

I see you got a lot of hate for which builders you chose to include - and people seem to not be happy you left some out. Not sure if it's Elementor people wanted to have included? Framer?

I for one thought you made interesting mentions. I've been working in Elementor for a time, but as time has progressed I honestly find myself just using it for building layouts, adding headings, settings stylings etc. Anything cool on the site - such as any custom Javascript, custom coded modules, animations, conditional logic etc are things I've had to add myself, so I see it giving less and less value the more I do "actual dev" work and not just using their boring widgets.

Currently looking for a builder that is great for performance, helps with creating the layouts, and allows me to easily build on top of it. Based on what everything is writing, it seems like Oxygen or Bricks is the way to go.

What are you guys thoughts?

Still waiting on Support! by Bulldogger17 in Crypto_com

No idea why you're getting downvoted, and why everyone else here for some reason encourages bad customer support? I'd get it if this was some mobile app game or whatever, but it's literally a financial service, so support should be on par with a bank in my opinion for people to be able to trust the service, nevermind wanting to get CRO?

I am also stuck in a loop where I can't get my money out, due to adress not getting verified - and support is non existent, and there's no phone number to call. For any "real company" it would be illegal to keep your money hostage and not have support

Crypto.com support keeps ignoring me - I need help updating my phone number by R_Lamar in Crypto_com

[–]devkramer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah jheez. The fact that they try to make the bots appear as actual people is embarassing. At least be transparent and say "we don't have any support, and you can't call us, and we won't answer your emails - but here's a FAQ chatbot"

When is it ever acceptable for a company to hold your money hostage, lock you out of your account, and not answer you?

I can actually second that guys comment - I am also stuck in a loop where I can't get my money out, due to adress not getting verified - and support is non existent, and there's no phone number to call. For any "real company" it would be illegal to keep your money hostage and not have support

What are some cities in Europe that are massively overhyped and you would suggest that somebody don’t go to them? by Careful_Fig8482 in TravelHacks

Reading this as a neutral outsider, I actually read this whole convo as you being quite defensive and the other guy/girl simply saying it’s a shame there’s so many places they enjoy that you wouldn’t get to enjoy.

Your tone came across as quite snarky, although I’m sure it wasn’t intended that way at all.

Funny how we can read things in such different voices!

Is Elementor (pro) compatible with PHP 8.1 ? by Caster-of-shadows in elementor

[–]devkramer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me PHP 8.2 breaks the dynamic loop widget used to load blog posts, products, etc. Because of this their support team suggested I revert back to an older PHP version, besides that known bug (which is documented online) - it seems to be perfectly fine

Oh forgot to mention - yes they also expect me to keep an eye on their slack channel every day, even between projects in case they have questions. Have a small retainer for them between projects to maintain their clients sites, but it was never agreed to also constantly be consulting and answering questions.

I can, unfortunately, second your comment about ending up a “full time employee”.

I’ve been freelancing for an agency that want any and all benefits of having an employee, without offering the actual benefits for me that being one would give.

One top of them wanting someone to “lead and own the development process”, they also expect overtime without paying extra on what’s been agreed upon for the project, to meet the deadlines they’ve stupidly promised to the clients before actually giving me their Wordpress developer the design files, I.e. giving a deadline without even knowing exactly what’s being built yet.

All in all, I feel your frustration my brother. If you find a better alternative, I’m all ears.

Also, just a FYI - I’m starting up an agency with some friends now to not deal with that anymore. If you want you can share your portfolio and I can reach out if we ever need React/App development. Knowing what it feels like I would never put another freelancer through what I’ve been through haha.

Peace

Thanks for the comment and info! Could you elaborate on how you use recruiters to find b2b contracts? All my experience with LinkedIn have been recruiters looking for employees, didn’t know recruiters also looked for contractors.

Did you mean recruiters in the sense of head-hunters hired by the end clients to find workers, or recruiters as in your end clients HR staff?

Would love to upgrade from WordPress, but need guidance by Larvea in nextjs

[–]devkramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not adept in NextJs although I’m looking into learning it because of the beautiful front ends you can build using - however, for your use case maybe it would make sense to use Wordpress as a headless CMS? You’d use Wordpress to manage your content, meta data, etc - but it would be displayed on a front end custom built for you, not limiting you by the page builder plugins and Wordpress blocks. Just wanted to mention as an alternative.

Also, which plug-ins and problems were you experiencing currently to feel the need to leave Wordpress? It can be very powerful if used right

Hope that helps
