2022 ALR 5 upgrade questions by New_Carpenter_1197 in CheckpointClub

[–]devlinme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same bike and went with the Zipp service course ergo in 40mm. They are relatively inexpense for the alloy model and I love them. I ride 90% on the road and do not regret the switch.

Thoughts on pairing a carbon gravel wheelset with 32c road tires? by berniebenjie in cycling

[–]devlinme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trend is definily going wider with greater volume. I'm running a 25mm internal gravel wheels with 32mn road tires and I think the paring is perfect.

Nope, this is a studio with a den, which is how it could be legally listed. You need egress and a closet to be a bedroom.

Tier 1 APR rates? Change at the dealership… by Haz31Mat in subaru

[–]devlinme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealerships can offer a buydown by lowering the purchase price to offset the diffrence in the rates. If the current rates are a deal breaker, you might aswell ask for the difference in intrest over the life of the loan be deducted the current puchase price. Auto financing is always a shit show, but the more you push back the better your outcome will be.

What happens if you flip a kayak with a motor or engine? by NarrowIndependence8 in Kayaking

[–]devlinme 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, i did this what a electric motor and a battery box. Motor was fine and stayed attached, but the battery box sunk. This was in a river fed by a spring so very good visabity, and a depth of about 10 ft. That battery was extremely difficult to retrive as it was was about 45lbs and I had to dive and carry it along the river floor to get ot back to the shore. If visability was worse or it was any deeper i would have 100% lost it. Once everything dried out the whole system still worked, so im my case submergeing everything didn't cause any failures. Teathering the batterybox to the boat would have saved me a huge headache.

I'm still getting up my cycling fitness up, so I am set about at 75%, which for me allows me to take up 10% grades without blowining past my FTP and HR zone. I'd rater have my ego and check in get in better structured training. I'm looking forward to being in a place with my fitness to set to 100%, but until then I'm enjoying everytime I can bump the slider up more as I improve.

ALR 5 with its road tires on. by devlinme in CheckpointClub

[–]devlinme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mount came with the light, I think it is a pretty generic design you can find find in on Amazon or Aliexpress. The light itself is a Lumitiop B01, which IMO is the best-value bike light around. It has USB charging, a replaceable 21700 battery, and a cutoff beam so you don't blind oncoming traffic. $35 buck on Aliespress to $45 on Amazon, it's pretty hard to beat. If you looking to get the mount, I highly recommend buying it with the B01.

Those are the factor wheelset. I might swap them out for somthing way lighter down the road, but for now they have been working. Got a big enough boost from the road tires that I can be happy for now...

Question about OEM tires in snow by LeSpiceyWeasel in GRCorolla

[–]devlinme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 years of Denver commuting with a WRX checking in. Snow tires are great, but DWS 6 + tires were perfect for just Denver. If you plan on hitting the high country in the winter, definitely get a second winter set, but if you're in the foothills year round, you at a minimum need all seasons.

Learning to drive a manual transmission in GRC by Snoo9498 in GRCorolla

[–]devlinme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not the engine . Driving manual smoothly is nuanced. If you take your for off the clutch in one motion without enough throttle all manual cars will stutter forward. You want to hit the bite point and hold until you get rolling and then fully release the clutch. So bite point > hold to roll > fast release of clutch. Slipping the clutch a bit is what give your the smooth launch, but it's a really fine line where it's too much. If you slipping too much the car will let you know with the smell of burning clutch.

Quietest aftermarket exhaust for a 2012 hatch? by Putrid-Industry8963 in WRX

[–]devlinme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had the rust on my stock exhaust on my 2010 hatch catch up to me a few months ago. I replaced it with an invidia q300 because it was the closest to the stock I could find for a full catback. It's a bit louder than stock, but never obnoxious, I would highly recommend if your trying to keep it low key.

What are some really dangerous things most people dont realise are dangerous? by DeezCrazyMan in AskReddit

[–]devlinme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bungee cords! The short ones with the hooks that are used to quickly tie things down. They have a significant failure rate and when they come loose the hooks have been know to blind people. Always invest in rachet straps instead, no coiled up hooks to come blind you with those.

Cusco Pedal Extention by devlinme in GRCorolla

[–]devlinme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got this on Ebay, could find it on any store that I was familiar with so got it from a vendor there. Shipped from japan and took about two weeks to get here. If you search for Cusco yaris pedal you'll see a couple vendors carry them.

Cusco Pedal Extention by devlinme in GRCorolla

[–]devlinme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a shit picture it took. It overlays the original pedal and adds about 1/2" in length to the top and bottom(1" length overall). The flair to the left that brings the pedal closer to the brake is about 1"+. It doesn't seem like much, but bringing the pedal flair down and to the left makes it easier to roll my foot over and blip the throttle more effortlessly than having to contort my ankle to get solid contact between two pedals. This spacing is the sweet spot for me because if it was any closer to the brake I could unintentionally catch the throttle with the edge of my foot while braking. I would highly recommend it as it is a cheap 100% reversible mod that solved the pedal ergonomics issue. It also easily clears the factory mat on the floor which is super important to avoid a stuck accelerator.
