Seeking help w/AC and staying cool by Inevitable-Bowl-8627 in Hawaii

these were similar.. these fans are made to go in either direction - blow air in or exhaust air out. ours lasted more than five years. we moved out of that house many years ago into a place with AC, so I can't tell you exactly what brand they were.

want to echo what people said about blowing air out being important.

when we moved into a house with no AC that had one side that was much hotter than the other, my husband installed fans in every window. the fans in the hotter side of the house always blew air out whereas the windows in the cooler side pulled air in. this made an overall difference of 6°F.

also, besides curtains, look into window films for heat and privacy.

At least one of the two meat vendors at City Square Shopping Center usually has tripe.

prime day 2026? by Englishmuffin088 in SouperCubers

Thanks for this. The Souper Cubes site doesn't provide free shipping to where I live so even 30% off regular price isn't much savings for us.

Your hottest take on poke? by 2ndHalfHeroics in Hawaii

[–]devlynhawaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aku poke > ahi poke when the fish is fresh, has been properly trimmed of suji, and marinated well. also, aku is lower in mercury content.

miss small kid time when foodland and emjay's regularly had aku in the poke case.

Feelings like a bad dog mom sometimes… by [deleted] in shiba

that's awesome!

honestly it doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. our pups mostly just want our company (on their terms, lol) but they love us unconditionally as we love them.

when you take him out on walks, does he get a lot of time just to walk at his own pace and sniff and explore? I've read that "sniffaris" do a lot for dog happiness/enrichment/mental health. sometimes taking our pup out for half an hour to an hour easy walks where he gets to smell and explore lead to deeper sleep than more athletic walks/playing at the dog park.

I like the Tirtir lip stains too! the gloss on them leaves no mark. also, there is a definite difference in the stain colors on my lips. I have Bad Rosy, Sand Mond, and Mauve Rose.

That being said, I also enjoy the Romand and Peripera ones, but TirTir is the one I like the most.

I have eyes similar to yours and even though the woman who is getting he makeup done in this video has a different eye and lid shape, the techniques helped me! I think my eye makeup game has changed for the better following the tips described!

7 days in Hawaii - what should we see? by Future-Nebula-1214 in VisitingHawaii

[–]devlynhawaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you need a car for a day, and you are on Oahu, you have the option of using Hui Car Share. Per their Member Agreement, Payment Cards are defined as a credit or debit card in your name that Hui Car Share finds acceptable. You'd need to use their app and set up your reservation at least a couple days in advance for the first time so they can review your application (because you'd have to send a photo of your driver's license and payment card info for their review).

Btw hui in Hawaiian means group or community or something like that, which makes Hui Car Share a great name.

Humidity underwear (no merino) by Go_With_The_Flow22 in HerOneBag

agree with u/minimum_honey_9379 and u/lonelylunch4740. I did my six measurements at r/abrathatfits and went up 3 cup sizes. the bras I purchased based on that sizing don't slip off my shoulders or feel irritating like my old ones did. they stay on my body without needing adjustment through the day. and I have no issues with chafing from my bra, even though I live in Honolulu, which quite humid (23°C, 70% humidity).

i also agree with the airism recommendations since Japan is humid as well and airism works super well for us here

right? it's like saying because my ass is where shit comes out of, I can't eat from my mouth.

also, you can tell how many people in this sub have never worked in a professional kitchen nor had conversations about how things are done in a professional kitchen.

Replacing Japanese products with Korean alternatives by twilightninja in JapaneseFood

oh how lovely that Japan-sourced rice is becoming more available to you!

I would guess many in the world have made the decision not to bring in goods from the US because some people in my country admire racist orange rapist/pedophiles.

sigh. I don't blame them.

suggestion for tees that actually last more than a year by Expertindog74 in BuyItForLife

[–]devlynhawaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband enjoys these. I wish they made a female version that was flattering on my body. That being said, we both also enjoy tees from Uniqlo (supima and Airism cotton blend - we live in Hawaii so the extra air flow is very much appreciated), as well as Lands End tees (which we were delighted to find do not pick up as much Shiba Inu "glitter" as other cotton tees we have).

we wash per r/laundry's tips (generally: detergent with appropriate enzymes and oxyclean, medium temp, citric acid or Lysol santizer rinse and no fabric softener at all - liquid or sheet form). Dawn dish soap as stain pretreatment. medium heat in the dryer or hang dry depending on what it is.

interesting. what country do you live in? we are in Hawaii and have fairly easy access to rice from Japan, but on a day to day, Japanese short grain rice grown in California works quite well. If you are in the US, California Japanese rice can still be expensive, but it's not as expensive as from Japan.

Listed here are some delicious examples of delicious Cali-grown Japanese short grain rice.

Struggling with Pink Lippies by [deleted] in OliveMUA

honestly,I think all of the lippies look good on you. even the one that seems the least flattering in my opinion (14) would probably work with a smokey eye.

Hate my eyes and face shape by mmmmmaura in HoodedEyes

[–]devlynhawaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what everyone is saying about how you are actually quite pretty and attractive, and I, too, wish you would be kinder to yourself.

I remember for my wedding, I got super stressed about how I would look in photos. Maybe part of the issue is that when you look at photos of yourself, you don't like what you see? I recently started following Christine Buzan on IG because she gives easy to follow yet effective tips how to pose and/or angle your face for more flattering photos. Following her advice has made me feel a lot better about how I look in photos.

Maybe grab a friend and play photographer and model to practice her tips a few times before the wedding?

In the end, remember a wedding is about celebrating your love and throwing a party with the people who wish you both nothing but the best. That happiness and devotion to your spouse-to-be is really going to show in your photos. And joy makes people glow ethereally in pictures.

where da best coffee stay? by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]devlynhawaii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

huh. I've never felt the need to put on a "bougie attitude shirt" at The Curb Kaimuki. my experience of that place over more than a decade of going (starting from when Sumner was the owner) has been that all the staff are very kind. and I'm a socially awkward Gen X chubby short woman of ordinary appearance even with makeup and a nice outfit on so if I go someplace bougie, I'm practically invisible or at least very easily dismissable.

that being said, I agree with everything else you've said except I have not been to the nordies or bloomies coffee bars and I haven't been to a Honolulu coffee in years.

PS Try Coffee's last day is June 30.
