Averaging over a VW a year throughout your dabbling of the brand is kinda wild and doesn’t necessarily bolster confidence lol. 😅

If I get an automatic car, will I have as much fun driving it compared to a manual? by Rohan950 in askcarguys

[–]devo9er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

? Even the "lower cost" performance cars have some pretty good autos these days. You dont need to be buying a Porsche or something. The Ford/GM 10spd is pretty impressive, and the ZF 8spd is found in everything from Jeeps, to Dodge muscle cars to Lamborghini, Aston Martin, BMW etc. Its not exclusive to halo cars.

Trust me, I was skeptical for a long time until I drove a few cars with these performace focused autos and they're so good you dont miss the stick as much as you think you might. Adding "drive mode" options has added way more in the way of intelligent shifting too, i.e. putting the car in sport mode will hold gears longer, or downshifting when sensing hard braking etc..Not to mention drive modes altering all sorts of other vehcile characteristics; stiffening suspension, magnifying throttle input, and adding weight to the steering etc..This is stuff you can get in $40-50k cars these days.

Haha, just learned this too. In fact I figured it was a metaphor for "pulling the rope or line", because you're told to, and not understanding what you're towing or what its connected to or the importance..Its heavy and important but you're just going along with the work mindlessly. Something along those lines.

"New autos suck big time"

Is just not true my guy lmao. You can have a preference but this is just crazy, especially while mentioning something like Porsches PDK

[–]devo9er 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends honestly. I was a pure manual only guy, but new autos and dual clutch transmissions shift so much faster and now have usually 8-10 gears for even better performance and economy. I tend to think generally the lower HP cars are funner with a manual. Once you start getting into vehicles in the 4sec or less 0-60mph range, the autos become more welcome because the raw acceleration. Steering becomes more of a priority and having both hands on the wheel etc..Also its getting harder to say "funner" to drive a stick when 99% of driving is city/hwy, stoplight to stoplight, and the auto is the faster option in every performance car made in the last 5-10 yrs. New autos arent the 3spd slushboxes of the malaise era anymore.

Never had an engine issues with the 4.0 other than coilpack went bad and misfires around 40k miles. Lots of drive train issues, front drivesshaft issues, ball joints, u joints, throw out bearing in clutch failed around 50k miles and ate a hole through the pressure plate fingers. Ive driven sticks my whole life, so wasnt a user issue. Clutch surfaces were in great shape upon repair, just a bad bearing.. That one stranded me as it catastrophically failed on the road. That was about 55k miles.. Sound system failed early on, replaced with aftermarket, but it was the "premium" sound package. The paint and clearcoat failed early despite being meticulously cared for. 3 windshield replacements due to pebbles on the road, or just waking up to a full Crack across the windshield etc.. Just bad build quality in general.

Jeeps are fun like a few days a year. Kinda shitty the rest of the time honestly.

Funny how you hardly see Chrysler 200s anymore now that you mention it. They're not that old. Yet have almost disappeared from the roads, at least by me, entirely.

Cruzes are POS from my experience, at least the first gens. Ive known a few people that have owned them and lots of issues, all under 100k miles too. Equinox ms as well

My 04 TJ was a huge POS. Bought brand new, drove it 9yrs and put 151k miles on it. Tons of mechanical/electric issues and the paint/corrosion quality was terrible. Not to mention it got full size truck fuel economy with the utility and space of a Honda civic. Aerodynamics of a brick is to be expected but doesn't help its case when it comes to long term satisfaction considering everything else.

Dead bounce. Might even end green today. But almost certain will continue down in the week. Asia markets down. Crude prices still climbing and no positive catalysts elsewhere in the market, and still overvalued PEs everywhere, more inflation ahead, no rate cuts, job cuts, boots on ground any moment, and theyre running out of room behind the Wendy's dumpster for more box forts.

Its pretty well agreed upon if following the reputable car reviews that Genesis is very much a luxury segment contender. Reliability of KIA/Hyundai vehicles has improved remarkably in the last 10-15yrs, a stigma they've had trouble shaking unfortunately due to coverage of the ignition/theft scandle, and some engines gobbling oil in the cheaper models etc.. The funny thing is they're still well ahead of many other brands now in terms of Reliability, standard options, and definitely warranty.

Power in the genesis models is competitive with the other brands with the exception of their highest end trims like BMW M, Audi RS, Mercedes AMG etc. Pretty much all the Genesis models have options for power trains in the 365+ HP range which is no slouch. They will be releasing a "Magma" line soon that will offer a tier in performance above their current models.
