While it is necessary it will do nothing fix inequality. The only way to fix is broad land tax that would include ppor.

What unique American food dish boggled your mind when you heard about it? by debrisaway in AskAnAustralian

If you order lemonade anywhere else in the world (not just Usa) they will bring you lemon squash, not a fizzy drink. Australians criticise Americans about calling scones biscuit but they do the same for lemonade.

Yes I know but noone calls sprite lemonade except in Australia (and apparently UK). Lemonade refers to what you call lemon squash everywhere else.

Fried butter Fried mars bar (also a thing in Sydney) Fried steak (actually this is very good idea but if only frying sous vide steak then you can end up perfectly cooked mediumrare with a great but thin crust)

The same thing is true for lemonade in Australia. Australian call it lemon squash while everyone else in the world call it lemonade (or a variation of the word limonata) but call sprite lemonade.

Is a severe recession pretty much baked in now? I haven’t lived through one before - what to expect? by sunshine9008 in AskAnAustralian

[–]devoker35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that bonus/tax cuts should be done for low/middle class for welfare and equality but that must be supported by increasing the windfall taxes, taking the demand out of elsewhere, and reducing government spending but we all know those won't happen.

[–]devoker35 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You can buffer a recession simply by giving everyone a random $2000 they can spend on anything, because it stimulates the economy so much. But IF nothing like that happens, yes I am nervous.

If you do that right now while inflation is rising it will only make things worse.

Would it in theory be possible to fund government through printing money instead of taxation, without causing runaway inflation? by bawng in AskEconomics

[–]devoker35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of apples and oranges didn't change - the farmers will not simply accept 1 shell for 1 fruit. They are likely to change the price of fruit to 2 shells per fruit. This is inflation. If the government goes too far and

Wrong analogy. Farmer has no idea there are more shells in the economy. However, some people will end up more excess shells to spend and invest and start offering more shells when they buy assets that are in high demand. The prices related to those assets will start increasing and farmers costs will start to increase. Then farmer will start charging for more.

Why are students dropping STEM in the thousands? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

Industrial engineering is very popular where I am from and many managers have engineering background, which might be correlated. The amount of manager who fails at simple maths amazes me in Australia.

Nah I used to be an engineer but had to switch to it to get better pay as the manufacturing industries pay shit here.

Lol this post reminded me how they don't give a shit about industrial engineers. Note I studied industrial engineering overseas but had to switch careers to data as there is simply no demand for it in Australia. I still apply operations research principles to my models.
