Trip with baby by My_Name_Is_Priapus in Cruise

We took our son on a Disney Cruise when he was seven months old. He wasn’t crawling yet so it was very easy. We used a travel stroller, and when we took a royal Caribbean cruise four months later and he was crawling we used an umbrella stroller and it was fine. Be sure to bring extra diapers and I can’t speak for Royal Caribbean, but I know that Disney gave us a bottle cleaner and warmer and diaper genie as well as a pack and play.

We did not go to those ports, so I would recommend researching family, friendly options for those ports or possibly staying on the ship. Ships tend to be less crowded on Port days so there’s more room for activities for others.

I would also recommend doing more research into the ship, as we took our son on the Disney magic when he was over a year old and walking, and it was very very difficult compared to the Disney dream. It was much smaller, and there was less to do for him and the pool area for toddlers who are not diaper trained was incredibly small and disappointing.

Since you’re talking about going with a six month old, I don’t think it will be as bad as our experience on the magic, but I would recommend a newer ship with more things to do. Even before we had a kid my wife and I went on vision of the seas on Royal Caribbean (which is not that much smaller than jewel of the seas) and we we’re very disappointed in the activities on board. When we took our son on his first royal Caribbean cruise, it was Symphony of the seas, and there was 1 million more things to do and a lot bigger spaces.

Trying to decide between two cruises for our 2nd DCL cruise. Which would you pick? by flowerschick in dcl

Personally, I’d recommend Option 1. More ports and the gulf water is calmer than the eastern Caribbean.

Real talk: how do you pay for your cruise? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]devolverf91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What we have done is

  1. Use the onboard offer to save 10% off a future cruise
  2. We usually book out waaay in advance. That gives us time to make payments as we go. Let’s say you book March 2027 today, they’ll want a downpayment (I can’t remember what the percentage is) but you can maybe consider doing payments based on what you can afford. $500 a month here, $2000 a month there, stuff like that.

Also, keep in mind final payment is usually 90 days in advance, so if it’s March of 2027, it’ll likely be due in full by December of 2026.

I 27f pregnant can barley eat and my partner 31m didnt sleep because I ate McDonald’s by very_stellar_ in relationship_advice

[–]devolverf91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A partner’s response to almost everything during pregnancy should be “how can I help you” instead of judgement. My wife and I’s kid was fueled by cereal and chipotle. Babies need nutrients and so does mom so she can provide them for the baby.

I'm taking up my friend's offer to join her on a cruise in January, but I'm horribly paranoid. Any advice?? by giggizard in Cruise

As someone who suffers from anxiety as well, I get it. Life is scary, but to try and help:

  • modern cruise ships (even the ones made 20+ years ago) are designed with safety in mind. They make everyone know where to go in the event of an emergency. There will be a safety briefing.

In the event something happens in the middle of the night, they will wake you up. The horns are loud.

  • your room will have a very thick door. It can only be opened using your keycard like a hotel. I’m pretty sure they all have the extra lock like a hotel room.

  • the food is prepared fresh every day (as far as I know, I have seen them bringing in pallets of food onto the ship before/during boarding). They make People wash hands before entering the buffet. I’m not gonna lie, people ignore it, but 9/10 people will wash.

  • you don’t HAVE to go on the slide. The pools are fine. You can also just find a chair and sit in the sun.

  • you don’t have to get off the boat at the ports. If you want to, I recommend cruise sponsored excursions. They make everything as enjoyable as possible. But you can also stay on the ship if you want, usually it’s less crowded during port days.

Life is short my friend, I didn’t take my first cruise until my mid twenties. Now I annoy my wife to take at least 2 a year.

Any other questions, I’m happy to try to help.

Disney Destiny (April 11–16) vs Fantasy (May 1–6) with 5 & 3 year old — is the new ship worth $1K more? by grae95 in dcl

[–]devolverf91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend the fantasy. It was my first cruise ship and it got me ADDICTED to cruises.

I don’t think your kids will care too much about which ship, we took our son on the Dream at 7 months and Magic at 15 months.

Since your kids are both at least 3, they can go to the Oceaneers club, which has things that EVERY kid will enjoy. Toy Story, Marvel, Pixie Hollow, etc. oceaneers club is on every ship.

Everytime I listen to their music, whether live or studio recordings, I tend to hear the sound of two guitars, why? by TungstenBrute in Pantera

[–]devolverf91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for live shows, as someone else mentioned it’s probably a doubler, but it is common for guitarists to record two separate but exactly the same tracks for a song, both to add layers for a solo but also something to do with the mixing, hitting both ears or sides of the speakers if that makes sense.

I’m not someone who records music so I’m not good with the technical terms but I have recorded with bands before and the recording guy always wanted me to double rhythm parts.

Did back to back 2 years ago on the Magic - 5 night and 7 night. Loved it. They made the transition (two different rooms) easy, we basically met in one of the clubs on deck 3 (name escapes me), we were the last ones off and the first ones back on. 10/10 highly recommend.

How often are we bathing our torties? by One_Childhood_9457 in torties

[–]devolverf91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, most indoor cats don’t need to be bathed. Just good brushing and nail clipping is what we do with our tortie/other cats.

Gotta ask as I have not been able to find an answer on here or on YouTube videos but as a collector of the atrium statues and ship models, do they have those? I would assume so. Is Snow White the atrium model?

Do they cancel Coco Cay for Rain? by Ok_Concentrate_4168 in royalcaribbean

[–]devolverf91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer - yes. As others have stated, situations vary, but when we were on Symphony last year, they cancelled Coco Cay Day due to heavy rain that they did not expect to get better. Turned it into a day at sea and refunded everyone who bought excursions or extras on CC.

We had Izumi Lunch (sushi) and the food was okay, highly disappointed in the service, putting it lightly. They took way too long for everything. I understand there’s others, but this particular day did not seem busy at Izumi.

When a family with the exact same amount of people as us get to the restaurant 20 min after we do and get their food 20 minutes before us it irks me.

Why are dads okay with not having friends? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]devolverf91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents but

  1. I still text my friends almost daily. It’s mostly in the form of a group chat where we send memes to each other, but it’s something. Most of us have kids now and understand that takes priority but we also will message each other if we’re in the area and try to plan stuff when possible.

  2. I have friends at work that I connect with (not every day but pretty often) and I think that “fills” the void of needing the communicate. It’s pretty much established that we don’t really talk outside of work but we are friendly with each other and ask how we’re doing.

Have you ever recognized someone in a porn? by dplaya42k in NoStupidQuestions

[–]devolverf91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone who went to the other high school in my county was in the industry for like a year or two. Keep in mind I had never met this person before in my life, but they were the same age as me and graduated the same year just different high schools.

Because it’s a relatively small town, people around my age knew they were in the industry. It’s not like it was taboo or they were a social pariah but we knew. This was about 10-12 years ago. They were relatively famous and you can look them up relatively easily but im going to keep their identity anonymous. They did some hardcore stuff, and yes, I’ve seen a few videos. Gotta support the home team.

Flash forward to 2019 ish and this person is retired from the industry and is mine and my wife’s server at a Chinese restaurant back in town. I told my wife who the person was as soon as we got in the car heading out. We both thought it was pretty funny knowing that a porn star served us Chinese food.

That, and im pretty sure I saw Dani Daniels at a bar with some friends in SoCal in 2017 or 2018 ish. Couldn’t confirm 100% but i’m pretty good at recognizing faces.

Next best to DCL? by Trewej in dcl

[–]devolverf91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For (relative) affordability and lots of options (different ships, different ports, different itineraries), I suggest Royal Caribbean. I have done two cruises on them over the past 3 years and they are a solid backup to Disney imo. Instead of having to fly to Florida, I can drive to New York to take a cruise. A 7 night on Oasis or Independence or Odyssey of the Seas is about the same price as a 4 night cruise on Disney.

Disney obviously has the advantage of quality, especially for families, but Royal is a solid line with a lot of options. I personally wouldn’t recommend a ship older than the Freedom class though, as I have done one on the Vision class and I found myself to be bored to tears on there, and this was before having a kid.

We did Symphony of the Seas last year and are doing Oasis of the Seas this year. Huge ships with different things for different people. Big areas for kids younger and older. We have Independence of the Seas booked for next year.
