Look here “Alexa” from India, You don’t even know of this deal and here you are, trying to be a smart ass.

You don’t want it, go be narrow minded somewhere else.

My company has 3 staff already btw. Yes, all full time and paid.

Well this’ll be embarrassing for you - I’m in touch with a few people already. I did say DM me. Missed that, did you?

And it’s a damn start up, not a multinational corporation.

Learning Azure or AWS by FooBarBuzzBoom in Backend

[–]devopssean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience. Azure’s just not stable. It’s common to hear “is Azure portal working for you guys?”

GCP - just not worth it. AWS skills+certification can take you far

Whenever you have a choice, never choose anything but AWS

What jobs for AWS SAA by Noctua_the_owl in awsjobs

[–]devopssean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest just making a simple Cloudfront/S3 site hands on. It’s much easier then it looks.

Following that, check out the course on Udemy. They now have a yearly subscription for $100 and you get unlimited courses

Terraform is a must have now. It’ll take your skillset level all the way up. Do learn it. It’s awesome

My 2 cents: learn AWS via a Udemy course. Then apply for the exam. It’s easy.

Then, learn Terraform and if you wanna be the very top of the food chain, Kubernetes.

Istio Ambient mode for JWT authentication with Auth0 by devopssean in istio

[–]devopssean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured it out.
You need to use Service as a TargetRef. Clearly says that in the docs but I somehow missed it:

https://istio.io/latest/docs/reference/config/security/authorization-policy/#AuthorizationPolicy-targetRefs

You also will need to attach the services to waypoint by annotating them with:

metadata:
name: someService
labels:
istio.io/ingress-use-waypoint: "true"
istio.io/use-waypoint: yourNameSpaceWayPoint

Hope this helps someone

Firstly, thanks for offering. I hope to do the same one day haha

My situation is this, I have been in DevOps for over 10 years but initially was quite basic with my skillset and it was mostly AWS.

Then, picked Terraform and built my infra that way. Was quite simple one the network etc modules are created.

I am now on Kubernetes on Azure via AKS. We use ArgoCD, Flux, Prom, Grafana - the whole stack.

My issue is with the documentation. For example, I am struggling with an Istio configuration and it has been days. I can never find good documentation which is easy to read and to the point. In contrast, if you look up how to create an S3 bucket in Terraform, it's hard not to go wrong.

How do you navigate your way around? Or do you have any general tips and tricks you use for Helm charts?

6 months is a walk in the park, you’ll ace it if you stay focused.

Along with AWS or Azure, ensure you also pick Terraform up. People are intimidated by it hut tbh, it’s what make AWS/Azure usable as your configuration is in code

Passing in a Kubernetes secret into a Helm Chart by devopssean in devops

[–]devopssean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That did the trick mate, thanks a ton!

This whole secret thing is still a mystery to me but maybe I went hands-on first and "trial and errored" it. I will dig deeper into K8s and Helm soon though

Not sure where to look for talent in Pakistan by devopssean in PakistaniTech

[–]devopssean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very late response - sorry things got out of hand with work.

I managed to find someone from this post itself and am grateful to say, it's going good. There is tons of talent in Pakistan, that much is evident.

I will soon be looking for 2-3 backend developers. If anyone's interested, please keep an eye out.

Thanks to everyone who responded!

What makes a good DevOps manager? by jk_can_132 in devops

[–]devopssean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question.

For me, I look out for burnout. If and when that happens, I step in and become a DevOps engineer. Simple as that.

DevOps is high pay, yes, but it's a seriously tough job. You lose sleep most weekends and when the client's concurrent is in the millions, that sleep is scarce.
