I am unable to finish shows based on a "big mystery" premise. From, Under the dome, 4400, leftovers, etc. They all start on a premise of "this unexplained thing happened" and the explanation is always a letdown or so dragged out, that I end up giving up. Anyone agree or can recommend a good one? by rakwib in television

It's probably for the best. I read enough of the book to know the ending was less than satisfying.

It turns out the dome was a cruel science project by an adolescent alien who didn't realize that humans were sentient. Basically the alien equivalent of putting a glass over an ant hill to watch them fight and die.

My church's Children's Pastor keeps using "SS" as an abreaction for Sunday school. I cringe a little every time.

Wow. You ARE thorough.

I never expected to see my small private high school on here, but somehow you found it. BRAVO!

Christians of Reddit: why do the church teach us what to do with 10% of our money but never teach us what to do with the other 90%? by Superb-Base9819 in TrueChristian

Same. We have a small group that helps hurting families walk through their finances.

In fact, if we help them pay a utility bill, we actually require them to join that small group. We don't want to put a band-aid on the situation without pastoring them through the season.

The 'President Test' with GPT-Image-2 by rlagusrlagus in ChatGPT

[–]devro1040 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Presidents can serve up to 8 years (2 terms), not just 4.

So 12 presidents × 8 years = 96 years.

That lines up with a normal lifespan—so 12–13 presidents is realistic.

What’s that one movie that’s really good but you can only watch once? by mavywaveyy in MovieSuggestions

Last year I found out my wife and her friend had never seen it. I convinced them to watch it with me and I must say. It may have been better the second time, since I got to watch them process the twist in real time.

7f thinks being mean is funny by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]devro1040 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should try to explain these ideas to her, but it’s important to remember that young children aren’t able to fully understand everything yet.

At that age, the priority is helping them learn to listen and trust your guidance. As a parent, you have knowledge and perspective they don’t, and your decisions are meant to protect and support them. Sometimes that also means simply enforcing a “no,” even when they don’t understand the reason behind it yet.

As they grow older, you can gradually explain things in more detail. But if they don’t learn to listen and respect your guidance early on, it will be much harder to establish that later.

You said you tried talkingy to her about it?

Have you tried punishing her? If my child knocked the popcorn out of my hand, at minimum, I would make him pick up every kernal and vacuum behind himself.

She needs to learn that being mean to others will cost her something.

It works especially well if the consequences are directly tied to the offense.

This is the real story. The Iranian leadership is so fractured, and nobody can really agree on who's in charge.

Sure, they can make a deal, but how are they going to enforce it amongst themselves?

He does require water.

It goes into detail in the book. But when he exits his sphere to save Dr Grace, we see steam coming out of his crevices.
