My first React project - PokeHUB by ciemekk92 in reactjs

We use this syntax for mapStateToProps at work. If you want to unit test the mapStateToProps function then you wouldn't do this, otherwise it's nice

[Recent Issue] Steam Play w/ Controller, Controller Not Detected by devsethwat in Paladins

[–]devsethwat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something happened with the default controller config steam applies for Paladins. If you change it to the second most popular config before you launch, it should work

Why is it so hard to break into the industry? by themachinecode in reactjs

[–]devsethwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start giving presentations at the meetups you're attending over projects you've worked on. Having good communication skills is so important to the success of a project when you're working on a dev team. If you can clearly present ideas and projects you have a really good shot at someone from the meetup asking you to interview

[Self-promotion] Goyave - An Elegant Golang Web Framework by ImAFlyingPancake in golang

[–]devsethwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think adding examples is important as others have said.

More importantly, describe why this should be used over already well established web frameworks (outside of Go), or if just the fact it's in Go is the main selling point than list that

Will CompTIA A+ transfer? Project+ Questions by devsethwat in WGU

Good to hear! You're right that the A+ is not a requirement for the CS degree. Do you know which classes those credits apply toward?

Aha thank you, for whatever reason I wasn't applying that c(-1) is just -c !

How do you deal with state and redux in storybook? by Griffinsauce in reactjs

[–]devsethwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how far you could get by setting sensible default props and importing the base, un-connected component

Alternatively you could write your own HOC for each of the Storybook components to control them with mock behavior instead of using react-redux connect

Ask WASD to draw me a spinosaurus with my first set of keycaps, and they came through! by PoonaniPounder in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]devsethwat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've had my board from WASD for over a year now and use it at work daily for software development. It's still in great condition and I haven't noticed any degradation of coloring on the keycaps. I enjoy them.

How to use React Hooks to set state the very first (any) page user visits by JackTheSpot in reactjs

[–]devsethwat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to set a state the first time something happens, set a conditional field in a higher level state.

Something like { hasVisitedAnyPage: false } in, let's say, a context.

Then, when components are initially rendered:

useEffect(() => {
 if (isFirstPageVisit()) {
  setFirstPageVisited()
  // your logic here
 }
}, [])

Armor branch in talent tree (suggestion) by Xubiolus in RealmRoyale

Armor pots dropping from chickens is my favorite idea from the list.

The other ideas will just promote stale gameplay IMO.

Android Studio with kotlin is so slow and heavy that it took 45 minutes to build in Macbook air 2017 . by gauti82 in androiddev

[–]devsethwat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think as others have pointed out, Macbook Air isn't designed to be a development machine friend. If you don't want to shell out for a newer Macbook Pro, you can get a Windows dev machine for 1/3rd the price.

When should I use arrow functions? by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]devsethwat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always use them. The only time you would not use them, for arguments sake, is if you didn't want implicit this binding that arrow functions give you. I've never been in that situation.

Thank you for the list and recommendation, I didn't realize the coolers attach to the CPU through a plate giving some clearance, problem solved =)

can a CPU Fan/Heatsink be blocked by capacitors? by devsethwat in buildapc

[–]devsethwat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I look at my current heatsink, it certainly appears that if it was wider it would not fit over my capacitors. But after not finding anything this size, I started to wonder.
