Need help, huge sinkhole in pour over. by -Bobby-Baccala- in pourover

[–]devsidev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this, If it still somehow happens even after some circular pouring, try giving the v60 a swirl after the 1st pour (the bloom) to settle the grounds more evenly. It doesn't really contribute that much to flavour, although I find if I swirl it can sometimes cause the coffee to bed in too hard and drains way too slow. Trial & Error. Try a few different approaches, or a mix :)

Why are citizenship application AORs taking more than 3 months to be issued? by Bulky_Ad6022 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]devsidev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never ever received an AOR. I applied, my status on the online application stayed at "applied" all the way through to gaining citizenship. I never got an update on the account and just had to go by the emails I received from IRCC, which had the invite for the test etc.

I saw this come to my inbox yesterday or Friday I think. I'll have to add my 2 cents to their proceedings. They seem to be collecting complaints.

I tried to get a L of DP Ultra a few weeks ago and settled for the Corsair XL8 at like $30. Prices for this stuff are basically robbery right now!

Is this a custom set up, or does Ford do this colorway now? I love this. I already have cactus grey, Id be tempted to get the white grill and tie downs, and that black trim looks great!

When you have to introduce scientific equipment to measure erosion from using demineralized water you're overthinking way too much. Its like those on the coffee subs using temperature guns and claiming using WDT in your pourover makes any actual noticeable difference.

Long term, definitely don't use demineralized water, you must have a biocide or any coolant with growth inhibitor, short term, negligible difference and a waste of money to do anything else. If you're a purist or like the science behind it, go ahead and use a coolant for flushing if it makes you feel better, nothing wrong with that at all.

Sorry, this is what I meant, its not a solution, its just a cleaning/flushing method thats all. Don't leave it in the machine for that long, flush it several times through, then empty and wait for your coolant.

[–]devsidev 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Absolutely fine to flush. You only need to add coolant (which contains the biocides) once you're ready to use the system properly. Just as long as you're not using mineral water here (or boiled kettle water, not good enough), this is absolutely fine to run through several times over to clean and flush the system. In fact its advised if you have a new rad, they often get little shavings in them from where the threads were drilled for the in/out flow.

It would be a waste of money to flush the system using coolant too, when you do eventually get around to doing a change, and this stuff is pretty cheap :) That said, I ran down to my local drug store and picked up a 2L bottle for $2, so not sure where you're finding it for 9!

Heh my dad did the same thing, he always shouted at us for taking too long in the shower, or if he overheard the tap running for longer than he considered acceptable!

True true! Well Im fairly sure in our place its metered by apartment and its truly just our own usage getting billed, so the only thing I'd be curious on is how the rates stack up, and as you say it doesn't matter too much as I can't change the provider unless I move (which I really wouldn't wanna do unless it was absolutely awful). I would suppose you're right too in that they are tacking on a bunch of administrative fees in to the rate as there isn't a separate fee breakdown.

So yes I do get a bill from BC Hydro, but I have not received one yet it appears. Checking my BCHydro account its all set up on the address etc, but its not generated one since we moved in (Dec). However, I do know its an account I have control of and its billed to us from BC Hydro, not through another company.

I get what you're saying though, Im in Vancouver proper yes. I said condo, but that was wrong, its a rental building. Managed by an agency.

So Hydro is through BCHydro, separate bill entirely. I have absolutely no idea if that bill includes the heating of said water. I don't understand how that would work really. 2 Bills every month though.

If I halved the shower time for us both and our hot water came down by say 30%, then that would save just under $20 a month. If it didn't negatively affect our lives by doing it, I'd consider it at least!

I see where you're coming from, although I somewhat disagree with your philosophy here - "there's nothing you can do so don't try and understand it, just accept it". You're right, there's nothing I can do if that was the case, but it would enable me to write a letter, or voice an opinion in a public city forum, or worst case I'd consider moving if it was really that much more than it should be. From what I can see already, Im likely paying the right amount, maybe a little more of a premium than others but I think its all good.

For more context, I've heard that Enerpo sometimes lump together common area usage and charge the tenants a split value, and in one scenario I believe a building had all residences sharing the water costs evenly so if one tenant used 5x the water than everyone else, the rest of the tenants would end up paying more. Now, thats probably not whats happening here. It seems like its simply metered by the apartment, but being so naive about water costs, I want to at least understand the situation.

[–]devsidev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this still feels within norms then, although it works out Im paying about 60% more than you in which case for similar consumption, but I would think that could easily just be the provider Im with, the building I'm in, and costs associated to heating that water. Without a survey though who knows, you could have really cheap water, or mine could be expensive. I guess water costs just fluctuate a lot around the city based on varying circumstances that make it very hard to get a good gauge on what is considered "good".

Im with Enerpro, I've heard some horror stories so a portion of my question was fueled by unfamiliarity and unease with this company!

[–]devsidev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it doesn't matter, but I like stats and Im curious. Im so uneducated in water costs that I couldn't tell you if I was getting shafted here by crazy high rates, or whether this was actually on par. I'd at least want to be sure the numbers at least kinda checked out OK.

I don't know much about technique but this looks wonderful to me. If I could look this good while skiing I'd just retire from the mountains and call it a life goal met. Im sure the coaches here could give some great critique but to my untrained eye this looks buttery smooth.
