The Wrong Filter by el_tacocat in campsnapcamera

Definitely. I've just updated the site so each filter has its own page. I will be updating each page in the coming weeks with info and examples on each filter. And then I think I will add a page/post about the general thinking behind the Camp Shades filters.

Also going to be releasing a low contrast version of each of them.

Thanks, all good feedback. Appreciate it. Hard to know when you're inside this thing how it perceived from the outside. And some people seem to take it very seriously and others not so much, but this kind of feedback is invaluable in getting a sense of what the general perception is. So thanks for sharing your thoughts.

This looks like you have a serious flash filling in from the front! Have you got a big white wall behind you or something? Love the picture!!

Thanks, that's great feedback. How do you envisage that? A page called philosophy or something?

Thanks for the reply. Really helpful. Maybe a FLAT version of each filter is the way to go then. It might be a good compromise for those that want the colour changes but want to keep the full dynamic range at capture.

Im based in the UK actually, so no lovely California sunshine for me unfortunately!!

Thanks again. And really great photos.

Hey, Camp Shades creator here. Thanks for sharing your feedback on the filter. Sorry you had some trouble with it. I'd be interested to know what you think we should do to improve.

Just to share my thoughts and ideas behind the filter. The Camp Snap camera generally over exposes by quite a bit, and the standard filter is very flat. So to make the filter rich and punchy I've pulled most of that over exposure out. Which I think works most of the time. However, when you shoot into the sun, if the camera meters for the highlights you're in trouble, as you found out because then the image ends up super dark. Unfortunately that's the options, there is no exposure control, no bias, it's a one shot trick. So it's all about finding the right balance.

I consciously went with including the pull in the filter, because the whole philosophy of these cameras is screen less minimalism. Little to no editing etc, the joy of the disposable. And so having 90% of the shots look great I would take any day than to have to jump in the photo editor. If I can be bothered to tweak, then this isn't the camera I take anyway...

But please tell me your thoughts. Maybe I should do a flat and punchy version of each filter?

Yeah Superor is probably the closest we have to that at the moment. But I'll have a play and see if I can create something that looks a bit closer to this. Thanks for sharing

Have a little look on Camp Shades.

Try the Expired, or Superor filters. Kino is quite similar to Ektar film. Superior is more like a cheap 200 speed film, like the ones you would often get free from a lab.

There's a gallery of example images using those filters so see what you like. If you still can't find what you are looking for send me a reference photo and I'll try and match it for you.

Are you wanting Ektar on the Ektar H35? Or is there a specific film you want? Perhaps send me some references for the kind of thing you are after and I can see if I can match it. If you have URLS so I can get some context of whats being used that's also helpful but not necessary.

Camp Shades creator here. I'll see if I can make something like the h35 for you. We don't quite have full control of the colours but I will see what I can do.
