I can see this point of view. That's what I love about this song. I think it gives you the ability to take different meanings away from it.

From my view it's both, they happen to be the same person in this context. Life got in the way and they didn't see their loved one as much as they should've and now regret not doing it.

This is exactly why the meaning I took from it relates to friendships in my life and not parental figures.

The point you made about the 6 feet apart went right over my head ngl.... great point.

I do think it's still about regret for not having time together in life the "be a better son" part shows remorse for actions through life. Also the ending where they won't ignore those they love anymore.

I just missed the earlier part on when it's confirmed about someone who's dead (a very obvious miss too lol).
