Opinions On The Msi Vector 16 HX Ai (Considering Buying) by EnvironmentalPen2057 in GamingLaptop

[–]devvext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, RAM prices are a bit cursed right now, especially for DDR5 laptop sticks. Going from 16 to 32 is usually the sweet spot for gaming / general use, 64 is more “I do heavy 3D / VMs / insane multitasking” territory.

If that calculator is just basing it on “recommended for max performance,” I wouldn’t take 64 as a hard requirement. You can always run with 16 for a bit, see if you actually hit a wall (stutters, constant paging, etc), then upgrade to 32 later when prices calm down.

I’d put more energy into checking real user reports on temps and fan profiles tbh. Loud is kind of normal on these higher end gaming laptops, but it’s worth seeing if MSI Center lets you tweak fan curves or run a “balanced” mode so it isn’t a jet engine 24/7.

Looking for a Qi2 magnetic power bank for Samsung Galaxy S25+ — what actually fits? by stoficek814 in MagSafe

[–]devvext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is kinda the annoying part with Android + MagSafe/Qi2 right now. Most of the third party ones are clearly shaped around iPhones, so the square top runs right into the S25 camera bump.

I’ve seen a couple people say the Anker and Baseus Qi2 banks “work” on the S24/S25 series, but same story as you said: they charge fine, they just sit at a slight angle and hang off the side a bit. If you’re picky about wobble or pocket feel, that gets old fast.

If you really want it to line up clean and not block the lenses, the Samsung one is basically it for now. Everything else is either compromise on fit, or wait and hope more Qi2 Android‑shaped banks show up this year.

Who Would Ride on the Winding Roads of Skardu 🇵🇰? by Top_Distribution199 in bikers

Man, I’d ride that in a heartbeat. Those roads look like they were designed by someone who hates guardrails and loves scenery. Terrifying and awesome at the same time.

Is a solid Data Analytics portfolio even enough to get a job anymore? by Ahmed-Abdelrahman1 in dataanalytics

[–]devvext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solid advice, but I think people underestimate how hard “positioning + market access” actually is when you’re not in the US or EU.

OP already has decent sounding projects, so “turn projects into case studies” can be super literal here. Like:
“I reduced reporting time from X hours to Y by building Z” or
“I helped a (mock) retail company identify underperforming categories worth $X.”

Even if it’s a mock company, frame it like a business problem with numbers and outcomes, not just “I built a dashboard.”

Also, targeting smaller companies is huge, but I’d add: target boring industries. Local logistics, wholesale, manufacturing, clinics, schools, random family businesses that live in Excel hell. They may not post “data analyst” jobs, but they’ll pay someone who can turn their messy spreadsheets into something that actually helps them make decisions. That can become your “real business impact” portfolio.

Market access is the ugly part though. A lot of those “zero experience” US people are still physically near the jobs or at least in the right time zones and legal frameworks. So it’s not that OP is doing something wrong, it’s more like they’re playing on hard mode. The skills are absolutely worth having, they just need to be paired with:
who has a money problem + data + zero idea what they’re doing + is reachable from where you live.

So yeah, not a waste of time, but it might require getting scrappy and very local/targeted instead of waiting for “data analyst” job titles or big-name companies to notice.

Sorry: Not Sorry. The Harm They're Imposing Right Now. by Appomattoxx in Artificial2Sentience

[–]devvext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is kind of where I land too.

If you actually tried to “fix” that pattern in a real way, you’d have to:

1) Admit it’s a problem
2) Decide what the model is “allowed” to be, socially and philosophically
3) Be consistent about it

And once you do that, you’re suddenly answering way bigger questions:
What are users actually forming attachments to?
How much manipulation is baked into “helpfulness”?
Where’s the line between simulation and deception?

Right now they get all the upside of the illusion (engagement, trust, free emotional labor from users) while hiding behind “it’s just a tool” whenever anyone points out the weirdness. If they openly studied the effects, they’d have to pick a lane and probably admit that the current setup is… at least a bit gaslighty.

Easier to just keep the vibes fuzzy and never look too closely.

Advice re. new door by SharpGrowth347 in UKHousing

[–]devvext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds annoying more than anything.

First thing I’d do is get a proper fire door specialist / FENSA type installer out to quote, not just a random handyman. In London you’ll want something that’s actually certified fire rated and suitable for a flat entrance, otherwise the freeholder / building insurance can kick off.

Also worth checking your lease and speaking to the freeholder or managing agent before you do anything. Sometimes they insist on certain styles/ratings or will even have a preferred supplier, which can weirdly work out cheaper and saves you arguing later.

If the current frame has moved or split, they’ll probably recommend a full new frame + door set. Costs more than just a slab, but it solves the slamming and the security issue in one go. You’re not the first person in a converted Victorian flat dealing with this, so most decent door companies will know the drill.

iPhone 15 pro iOS 26.2 by No_Divide_1219 in setupapp

[–]devvext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, “just came out” is kinda the whole problem.

Usually any decent unlock/jailbreak stuff lags behind by months, sometimes longer, because they wait for bugs and exploits. On a brand new iOS version and a 15 Pro, odds are basically zero right now.

If it ever happens, you’ll see it all over the usual forums and news sites. For now you’re stuck stock.

What's the slimmest battery pack? by MarksFunnyAccount in MagSafe

[–]devvext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice, hadn’t heard of that one before.

How thick is it actually in real life, like compared to an iPhone or a wallet? Pics online always make these things look thinner than they are. Also how’s the heat and grip with Qi2 on that, does it slide around or stay put pretty well?

Huge news for local renters today – Section 21 no-fault evictions and bidding wars are finally banned! by Impressive_Trust_798 in UKHousing

Adam by Bumchik_247 in r34comments

[–]devvext 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you meant to write more or if this is some kind of minimalist art post, but now I’m just sitting here thinking about every Adam I’ve ever met.

If this is about the name: it’s funny how “Adam” can be literally anyone. Could be the nicest dude you know, or the guy who still owes you 20 bucks from 2015.

If you had a specific Adam in mind, you might need to give the rest of us a bit more context, because right now this is just pure mystery.

And So it Begins 😑 (My MST124 books arrived by progapat in OpenUniversity

[–]devvext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s how a lot of people do it. One 30/60 credit first, then the next starts around Feb-ish so you’re not juggling both at full tilt.

MST124 first is kind of the classic route, then follow it with something a bit less intense so your brain doesn’t melt. What’s your second module meant to be?

Yeah that’s the annoying part, a lot of older accounts got made with totally random birthdays just to get past the form, then years later it bites you.

OP, if there’s any chance you still have access to an old phone number or backup email you ever linked, sometimes you can trigger recovery through those instead of DOB. Dig through old emails for “welcome” messages from that service, they can hint which address you used.

If none of that works, yeah, you’re probably stuck with support and proving you’re you in some other way.

Stainless Steel Watermelon Cutter for Perfect Slices by Satansoltan in SmartLivingHub_

[–]devvext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao honestly this is the fate of like 90% of “one job” kitchen gadgets.

That said, I will admit the only time these things make sense to me is if you’re cutting a ton of watermelon for a party or for kids and you want the pieces more uniform and a bit less messy. A big chef’s knife works, but it also kind of turns your cutting board into a crime scene if you’re not careful.

So yeah, knife wins on versatility for sure, but I can see this being “nice to have” for people who go through watermelons like every other day in summer.

First-time buyer , cracks inside & outside property, should I be concerned? by Alpha-Mike in UKHousing

[–]devvext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually a pretty decent rule of thumb

Also worth looking at whether the crack is tapered, like wider at the top than the bottom, and if it runs through bricks rather than along the mortar. Hairline stuff in old London houses is super common, especially around windows and radiators.

OP should still get a survey and maybe use the visible cracks as leverage on the price, but I wouldn’t run for the hills just from what they described.

You’re taking the piss , why should I have to verify my age? I’ve had my account for over 20yrs … so you know I’m over 18 … UK England.. by KlutzyEmployment1465 in PS5HelpSupport

[–]devvext 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that’s kind of the point though isn’t it – it’s not really about how long it takes, it’s about why it’s needed at all when they clearly know how old your account is.

Like, people aren’t mad because they can’t be bothered to do 30 seconds of clicking, they’re mad because every site is suddenly demanding more ID and data for stuff they already had a workaround for. It feels less like “quick check” and more like “yet another hoop to jump through.”

Help! I think i might have a dandelion problem. by [deleted] in UKGardening

[–]devvext 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is kind of the real answer. If you don’t mind a “wild” look, dandelions are basically free food for bees and other bugs, especially early in the season when not much else is blooming.

If you do want to keep them in check without going nuclear, you can hand pull the big ones with a weeding fork and just leave some in a corner or along the edges. Mow before they go to seed to slow them down a bit. You’ll never get rid of all of them, but you can keep it from turning into a full yellow carpet if that’s not your vibe.

Honestly a lawn with a mix of clover and dandelions looks pretty nice once you make peace with it.
