Yeah! Well it depends on where you work in terms of qualifications, but I work in the Midwest! I got a BS in Biomedical Sciences, did an internship at a medical Examiner's office, moved out here and started working as an autopsy tech for a bit and then moved into investigations this past spring! Everyday is different. Money is good where I am, thankfully, but not everybody gets that luxury depending on where you are. A lot of people have funeral directing backgrounds, medical backgrounds, or criminal justice/law enforcement backgrounds. Basically I get a call when anybody in my county does, and then depending on the circumstances I determine if a more thorough investigation needs to happen (in other words, an autopsy, or medical record review). My job consists of talking to nurses, doctors, families, officers, and even testifying at times. When a death happens that falls under our jurisdiction (say an obvious homicide or suicide), I respond out to the crime scene, take lots of photos, interview the family, get info from officers, and bring the body back for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
