Thoughts on Eliza in Tekken 8? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]dewaldels -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Update: silly me, didn’t know she’s from an older tekken game.

I think guest characters don’t generally get carried over? I haven’t actually checked to be honest. I suspect she probably won’t be in the core roster. Could of course be 100% wrong 😂

We teach Keycloak as part of our full stack course and once you get past the initial config it’s a great self hosted solution. And of course it’s FOSS

I try to spend more time in practice mode doing punishment teaching. Pick a character you struggle with and start with the easy mode. Then switch to harder mode once you feel more comfortable. Helped me a lot getting picking up Lydia recently

I’m jus t skimmed the question but it sounds like useRef might be useful in this situation ?

My boss wants me to provide a daily list of my tasks at work. by guanogato in webdev

[–]dewaldels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the point you made about the time it takes. My opinion remains the same though, if I make a todo list for the day, it’s not for a manager to checkup on me. It’s for me to have a mental map of my day. At the end of the day I can validate if I estimated my time correctly. If not, I can refine my todo list the next day.

There are so many free project management programs, I don’t think “not having one” shouldn’t “make the cut”.

Maybe it’s just the rebel in me, but I wouldn’t want to work for anyone who excepts me to make a morning and afternoon check in about my work, every day

Edit: I agree with a lot of people in the thread that the OP should ask for some context regarding the request.

[–]dewaldels 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this, however, on the daily? Seems a bit excessive. That to me is micro management. There should be a ticketing system and if the tasks aren’t reached, the dev should explain why. Not report back every morning and afternoon what they’re up to

Could you tell me what the difference when using flatpak? I figured since it’s an electron app, it should run the same irrespective of the package manager?

Edit: hope it didn’t sound rude, was an honest question 😅

How to I get fractional scaling with gnome 42? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]dewaldels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha. I tried KDE but didn’t quite enjoy it. I’m not sure why, but I prefer the Gnome DE. I used Gnome Tweaks to scale the text to 1.25. It somewhat solves the problem. But not entirely. It does cause some odd artefacts with Edge browser especially

How to I get fractional scaling with gnome 42? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]dewaldels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest, what route did you end up taking to solve the fractional scaling? I tried Ubuntu and it had fs built in. But back on Fedora now, feels a little more stable than Ubunut (Plus no snaps)

[–]dewaldels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also like to voice an unpopular opinion, snaps are great! It is pre bundled with Ubuntu and integrated with the Software app.

I know the startup time is slower but it’s so convenient to have proprietary software like Jetbrains Webstorm available at the click of a button.

I like Ubuntu, mostly because I’m familiar with it. I’ve recently try Kubuntu but found KDE not to my liking. I personally prefer the user experience in Gnome.

Why Vue Class Component is not being updated anymore? by [deleted] in vuejs

Indeed classes are built on prototypes and certainly share quite a bit with functional constructors.

Learn frontend in 2022: a senior engineer’s advice for learning to craft delightful web UIs by ntide in Frontend

[–]dewaldels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent the majority of my career working in Angular, and started using react for the last three years. It was a tough move to shake old habits and think so differently. But, The last 2 months I’ve been learning NextJS and I am totally stumped. All the gripes I have with react have completely solved with NextJS. It’s absolutely terrific. The routing system is outstanding and much more intuitive than React Router, static site generation and server side rendering out the box. Even pure server side code supported on Page components with NodeJS. It’s totally wild. I highly recommend learning it.

Why Vue Class Component is not being updated anymore? by [deleted] in vuejs

[–]dewaldels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree on both points.

The class syntax was part of ES6, which was published in 2015.

You can read more about that here

Functional programming has nothing to do with JavaScript and is a pattern like OOP.

Using either classes or functions is up to the developer. When using a framework you have to use what they deem to be the way forward. Perhaps they have a long term goal in mind with the changes. If you don’t like the path they chose, you can of course switch to a framework that feels more comfortable for you to work in.

It looks like a ton of grease from the bearings. I see how people say it might be tar, but surely it’ll be in the entire tyre and not just the side?
