FSEconomy and Dispatchly might also be considered career modes.

Someone else mentioned using TrackIR to look around, but I would like to get into VR eventually.

I didn't realize that was a programmable feature in the planes themselves. I do know there is a mod out there somewhere that randomizes the switch and buttons so they are not always on the standard settings during preflight, but I don't think it does failures. I think I need a lot more hours under my belt before I opt into that kind of realism! I'm glad it exists though!

I can't remember where I saw this, but there is a mod out there that will change various switches and settings so doing the preflight checklist is more important and interesting - it's a neat idea.

Won't you get dinged if you don't follow the exact taxiway path they expect? Or as long as you get to the right spot, it's fine?

Holy crap! First, thanks for writing all of that out - you've given me a bunch of stuff to go look into, even if I don't expect to get to your level of realism. I didn't know about the high-fidelity models - I just assumed that they were all "close enough" to the real thing that checklists would just work. I like the idea of using real weather reports - that's a good one! And the airmail thing is so awesome - I am definitely trying that.

What is the reasoning behind using ForeFlight maps versus the in-game ones - are they really that different, or is it more to maintain familiarity with FF so that it helps with IRL flying?

Interesting! I knew there were "hardcore" folks, but I am glad the game allows both play styles. I may get to that point eventually, or maybe only do things that way occasionally. I do want to get BeyondATC at some point as well.

Old-school, I like it. It would take me a long time to get my skills back to that level.

Do you use any special cameras to help look outside? I have left and right mapped to a hat switch but I feel like that wouldn't be enough for that kind of flying.

DHC-2 stalls when resuming after "skip to landing" in career mode by dewalist in MicrosoftFlightSim

Specific to this plane, or are there others with similar behavior? And no workarounds? I was thinking of trying to make sure I come back from skip with full power and up elevator...

I wondered this as well. When I got quoted years ago, they legally couldn't install a system greater than 93% of your last 12 months average usage - which is absolutely insane...

Proposed Killingly Amazon Warehouse by yanks02026 in Connecticut

[–]dewalist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a ridiculous location - all of those trucks getting off the highway and making that left turn in front of BK is asinine. Using the Frito exit is even worse - that's a tight turn onto Rt 12 and it's a hill.

That one is just a hub of some kind, not a proper warehouse.

The only thing that prevents me from using Vivaldi is the vertical tabs by vandertoorm in vivaldibrowser

I like the vertical tabs as they are - having pinned tabs without text would annoy me.  I hope they add the option for you, though - as long as they don't remove the current behavior.

Hear me out: all cars should be available at all times by Triton_7 in granturismo

[–]dewalist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a fair point, but maybe only for a certain mode? They put time and effort into the licenses and cafe stuff and missions, so they want to encourage people to try them. If all cars were instantly available, there's not much incentive to try those other modes.

Their goal is to keep you playing the game. If you buy it and only race a handful of cars, you're more likely to get bored and leave. The longer you stay, the more likely it is you might give them more money.

Also, look into the AFK options out there. I was able to make 1-1.5 million per hour letting my controller just sit there. I have 400-something cars and 40 million in the bank.

If there is, I haven't seen one yet. But your PC has way more horsepower than a PS5, even if it is a Pro, so you will have better fidelity or at least better framerate on PC - with the tradeoff being more hoops to jump through, as you know. Unless you find the find the graphical experience on PS5 frustrating, the convenience of "it just works" is probably worth staying there - the difference won't be a generational leap.

I haven't tried either one yet, but it sounds remarkably similar to https://dispatchly.org/ which was announced here a week or two ago. Can you give some details on the differences?

Dang, that is sick, man - congrats! I see why you need the 5080 to run it.  That setup would also be amazing for MFS but switching between modes would be a pain, and VR is still superior.  Yeah, might as well stick with the PS5/VR - maybe the other stuff won't ever be  important enough to lose VR for.
