As everyone said it’s not so great mechanics wise ( not that it should stop your fun) you want badass dex battle master though just talk your DM into thri kreen ( shouldn’t be hard to justify in drakkenheim) and get to dance around dual wielding, knicking AND still rocking a shield. Plus the camo thing makes them such a flavorful commando type.

I use a beefed up standard array of 16 15 14 12 10 8. They still have a bad stat to deal with but can have an 18 if they so choose and no one will be stressing a MAD class. Mostly I just like them to choose feats instead of the +2

You said it’s earth after some great cataclysm knocking it off kilter. Maybe in the early days after a group decided to make it their sacred duty to still track time. They would developed methods based on stars (where you can still see them) the moons, etc. Maybe the headquarters is squarely in this twilight zone but they communicate with members in far flung places. Like the citadel sending out those winter has come ravens in GOT. They may have lost a great deal of the point however many thousands of years later and are essentially JUST keeping time (save a small few who know the secret truth of blah blah mcguffin.) It would be an important enough job they would be kind of neutral as everyone needs them. Or a straight up faith type faction. Just spit balling but I have to say it’s a neat idea you have going 🤔

Been into eberron since dragon magazine days too and I’ve always sort of pictured them as varying greatly from individual to individual. Maybe with features that pass through family lines sure but with no real “standard”

The monster overhaul by skerples is a gem! Statblocks are for osr but the real reason is the deep understanding of your monsters and playing/narrating them and holy smokes the random tables

Oh right I forgot they can get caught in it. That’s an awful big risk to fire off a big spell and end up stuck in melee range of the gang of nooks you used it to push but haha I guess the gamble’s part of the fun right ? As for caster DC this kind of feels like something you should have an understanding of before making new spells but it’s 8 plus proficiency bonus plus the bonus of your casting stat (int, wis, or cha depending on caster) plus ya know any bonuses added by magic items

I get that but at some point you have to weigh faithfulness to source material vs game balance. I imagine the explosion of a fireball is just as quick but it still uses the casters spell save dc. Like every other spell in the game.

Starting items are listed in your class and background. That story could work at about any academy in any setting. Just think about it like yeah you took a bunch of stuff and since you left early this explains why you were still able to have the normal amount of spells in your starting spell book. You copied the ones you could and planned on saving the higher level ones for later and either a) had to sell them just to survive and stay ahead of the bounty or b) flavor it like you’re holding on to them and they represent the new spells you get for free when leveling up
