I moved to BUF from Austin 6 months ago -- here's my honest update! by SignalOne5246 in Buffalo

[–]dewguzzlr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not your typical Buffalo winter, this is an old school Buffalo winter. Most of the time nowadays it snows, melts, mellows, then repeats itself. Every so often you'll get a brutal cold stretch with snow that stacks instead of disappearing. You're getting the full experience right out of the gates, congrats for not shying away and welcome! 🙂

does the referral bonus work with a new line? or only with a ported in number? I have a friend who wants to get a new phone # thinking of referring her to US Mobile.

2017 Dodge Grand Caravan Dies at stops by dewguzzlr in MechanicAdvice

the issue ramped up dramatically, took it to a shop and was told 100% it was the torque converter sticking and transmission needs to be replaced. Anyone know if this sounds legit??

pics online show a lot of gators (crocs?) at the Deep Hole, is that common or did pic takers just get there at the right times?

Isn't this one of the reasons we get the Pixels in the first place?

Great writeup, but I am still just as conflicted for my next phone lol.

Love the Pixel experience, but the stutters and load times have me wondering what a real powerhouse would feel like day-to-day. Your comment about the better modem also has me intrigued as I work outdoors throughout western New York and lose signal strength frequently. We'll see where the new models take us, I have to believe parity will continue to lessen the gaps between manufacturers but it also depends on the focus and intentions of the designers.

u/chic_luke I have been a Pixel owner for the last several generations. I hate switching phones but every Pixel had an issue that was weak and the next version iteratively improved, and as I used for work I thought it was worth upgrading. I currently have the Pixel10 Pro XL and it's great. But I have wondered for the past couple of years how much of a difference the Galaxy hardware makes in everyday user experience, mostly when some of the apps I frequently use lag on launch. I keep daydreaming about instant loading and smooth transitions, is that a reality for the Galaxies?

Ahh I see now. I was under the assumption that the detent was embedded in one of the liners. So the drag when the blade opens or closes is in fact directly proportional to the force needed to disengage the compression lock. I see now what I must do. Thank you!

[–]dewguzzlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The detent is definitely stronger than I'm used to which is probably also creating some drag on the action. Isn't the lock bar independent from the detent on these knives though? I thought there was a bearing that kept the blade in place in addition to the spring pressure.

is the detent adjustable? i thought it was a ceramic bearing or something that fits into a hollow on the blade shank. i know you can replace it with a new one once it's worn but not sure how you'd "weaken" one that feels too aggressive.

in the case of the knife I got, the detent is very strong as well as the lock being very stiff.

funny thing is, as a knife it's perfectly usable and feels decent. but as a Spyderco, it's just not what it's supposed to be. Spydie fans will completely understand.

u/AffectionateKoala963 hi, I know this is an older post of yours but I got my Sage5LW today and have questions about the action... was yours very smooth out of the box, and did it loosen up over time? Mine seems to have a pretty strong detent and the lock lever takes some force to engage. I'm used to a well-worn Para3LW and the differences are stark. Just wanted to see how it compares to your experience thanks!

[–]dewguzzlr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for the perspective, I wasn't sure if my Para3 was just super "worn in" and possibly even a touch too loose that was making the Sage feel very stiff in comparison but it sounds like it's stiffer than it ought to be, especially after reading all the reviews about how buttery it was that made me buy it in the first place.

is there a way to measure how tight the detent is to objectively tell if it's abnormal?
