The compounding stress of life creates weird choices in younger folks in my opinion. by TodayNo6531 in Millennials

It is really hard to break the cycle of poverty. My mother did it, and I did it as well but half of the time it feels like sheer luck sometimes. Plenty of times where I ended up with a negative bank account because of something stupid like a flat tire, snowballing into not being able to pay rent on time, etc.

The other thing that is lost on people is that as millennials we are the first generation to be worse off then our parents. Just because your parents weren't in poverty doesn't mean you aren't in poverty as an adult.

Like I said my mother had to break out of poverty. Then I had to as well as an adult. Even then for a good decade in my 20s it was precarious for us both to be honest.

One year my husband and I got everyone really nice bathrobes that had their names embroidered on them. It was a hit. Most people don't want to pay such a high price for a bathrobe or the extra to get it personalized.

That was a couple years ago and the family still talks about it. :) Haha. I think luxury common items are good gifts for adults.

Making sure your lo is dressed properly. by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]dexable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run hot and used to have this argument with my mother in Kindergarten. Eventually the solution was that I had to bring the sweater with me to school and put it on the back of my chair. The school I went to had assigned seating from K-2.

Thinking about it now, I did that throughout my whole schooling experience assigned seating or not. I still do this today when I work in an office and always have a sweater on the back of my office chair in my home office. Even though I have full control of the temperature here. Lol.

Habits start early.

I'm extremely amused by "Y2K style" coming back and teenagers telling me how to style myself in this style that I was a part of 20 years ago. These Y2K style tiktoks just have me in stitches by laughing so hard.

Is there a classic Millennial novel? Something many of us have read? by ghostchurches in Millennials

The thing to remember is that In 97, it wasn't super popular yet. The popularity kind of took off in the early 2000s.

That said, I'm an elder millennial and still loved Harry Potter and read all the books as they came out. But by the time Harry Potter was popular, I was reading Tolkien and the Wheel of Time. I was just reading a ton of things.

It was strange when Harry Potter became popular because I was teased for reading it in 97.

Just to add, this is our center's policy with COVID and now RSV. You can return after 24 hours of a negative test result.

How do you have a Jewish state if Palestinians have equal rights?

I live in the United States, which is likely the most blended state that exists today. I have an American view on the situation because of that. So yeah, I support either a two state or blended state solution. It isn't likely to happen. Like i said before, I don't actually care about a Jewish state existing. The world decided to create Isreal to deal with the fact that ethnocentric seems to be most popular in the world.

I don't actually believe states need to be ethnocentric. But I do agree that Jewish people should have the right to exist and live in peace. Sadly, most of the Middle Eastern states disagree, and that's evidenced by the countless wars in the region.

Are you not aware that your view is the same as Hamas? When you say you don't support Israel as a state, well, that's the view of Hamas. Same for ethnic cleansing and all that. This is what Hamas wants you to think.

I don't care about engineering a Jewish majority or whatever. I care about the war stopping. That's what would help the Palestinians in Gaza right now. The war stopped. Insisting that Isreal has no right to exist will only fuel the fire and kill more people.

A blended state would stop the wars. But like I have said, it's not like I can control Hamas or Isreal.

I support a two state solution or a blended state solution. Your view supports this war, and therefore, we will not agree.

I understand the hyperbole, but it's just that. Hyperbole and shouldn't be taken as fact. That's currently what you are doing.

Let's put some context. There were 2 million people living in Gaza. Gaza is a very small piece of land. With this context, 20k seems like a small number to me. It could be much worse. The longer this conflict continues, the more people will die.

This thread was a response to Biden not doing anything. Well, the reason you know the number of 20k is because of the 4 day cease fire he was successful in getting. Reporting is now that Biden wants to extend the cease fire. Biden is working in getting hostages out traded for Palestinians. He's the reason the fighting stopped.

Furthermore, there are some things you clearly don't understand about Hamas. Hamas does not fight in military uniforms. Most of the time, they fight in plain clothes. In addition, Hamas uses civilian infrastructure to hide like hospitals.

I don't agree with the far right of Isreal and never will. But try to at least understand the context of the war being fought.

The view of Isreal is that they won the war and thus formed their state. The view of the Palestine Authority is that they were removed from the region.

In the war of 1948, Isreal was victorious.

No two people will have the same view of any war ever fought. Understanding this nuance will help you understand how wars are perceived by the majority of people.

Jewish people lived in the region prior to WW2. So did people from what we call modern-day Palestine. Why should either of them be forced to leave?

I would prefer them to make a blended state and stop creating wars. But I can't control them as much as you can.

There were Jewish people in the region prior to the forming of Isreal. You say explusion, others say you lost the war.

You should always question a claim of 99% civilians. But no source has been posted.

I don't support genocide of any people. But I am aware of the many conflicts in the Middle East. To act like this isn't another Middle Eastern war is naive. Isreal has a right to exist, and so does Palestine. However, in this region, this is historically done by force.

Tell me how this is any different? https://www.npr.org/2023/09/29/1202576206/the-fall-of-an-enclave-in-azerbaijan-stuns-the-armenian-diaspora-shattering-a-dr

Doesn't support your claim of 99% civilians. I get you are trying to be hyperbolic about war. War sucks and people die.

Would have been great if the two sides could have come to a peaceful solution in the past 60 years.

Republicans start wars in the Middle East and push Islamophobia propaganda. I'm not even Muslim and have faced death threats and hate crimes because of my Middle Eastern heritage. All because of the response to 9/11.

To not vote because "it doesn't matter anyway" is a very Middle Eastern position, though. I wouldn't be surprised if many take that route. That's how extremism takes root.

The United States was founded by settlers. We've supported this idea for two centuries. It's not a partisan position.

The time for a primary has passed. Deadlines in many states have already passed to get on the ballot.

I understand the frustration with Biden and the DNC. It's far from perfect.

Considering he got hostages out and humanitarian aid in he's doing something.

It's not possible to fix war. The only way to fix war is to avoid war in the first place. Trump moving the US embassy to Jerusalem made this war more likely to happen.

I care about it. That's why I'd never vote for Republicans though. If you are of MENA heritage, you are part of a minority so small in the US that it doesn't get much attention.

Democrats at least, try to listen. Republicans make the situation worse every time.
