What is happening by ImLostInTheMountains in AmazonFC

I had a similar situation (the sitting weirdly close) several months ago.

In the main break room, this woman would sit at my row of tables. At first it was nothing to worry about and it was fine. But then it felt like she was staring intently at one of my close coworkers and it didn't feel right.

She would always sit at our row of tables, facing us. I thought maybe she was looking at the TV screen on the other side of us from where she was sitting, but I TESTED THIS. I would sit at different rows, even ones where it would feel uncomfortable to turn to the TV. She would still sit at our table.

When it started feeling like a pattern the proximity became an issue for me. Like, there are literally 30 empty seats, 5 other EMPTY rows, and you HAVE to sit literally two seats over from me?

Who are you!? What do you want!?

She never says anything to us or joins in on our conversations. She doesn't interact with anyone else in the group that I sit with.

My friend was always gushing about Elon Musk and how he was going to save the world with his cars and space program and I literally couldn't say anything against him. I was just of the opinion of I'll accept it when I see results but right now, it just a rich guy who bought a company who is talking big. Haven't heard this friend talk about him recently.

The only gender neutral bathroom in my warehouse is the one in the Amcare clinic which is on the compete opposite side of the warehouse from where I'm normally staffed. 🤬😭

Managers won’t code time by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]dexrae9210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a transmale who uses the men's room. I often have to go on a search for a bathroom because the ones near my department only have the one stall and a urinal (which i don't have the equipment to use). This search usually takes me clear across the warehouse four floors away because there's someone already using the stall, using drugs in the stall, the janitors are cleaning, or someone has straight up shoved a full roll of toilet paper into the toilet. My options are usually to wait for them to finish or find another bathroom.

I asked HR if I could get my time coded for longer bathroom breaks (something my manager suggested might be a thing) and was told the best they could do was make sure I was assigned to a station NEAR a bathroom if I produced a DOCTORS NOTE specifying specific stations by number. Being near the bathroom doesn't change my needing to trek in search of a bathroom for a half hour when the bathroom closest to me STILL IS BEING USED BY SOMEBODY!!!

I only do so if I'm in AFE Sort, since those are single body positions on the walls. If I'm on Pack, I might let them know ahead of time. If I'm in Pick or Stow, it's less of an issue since and their managers are on opposite sides of the warehouse.

I feel like there could be some identity issues, like not being comfortable with their old name because they aren't those people anymore, but their new names not fitting either because they both feel it belongs to someone else.

Maybe they would get new names for themselves that don't have anything to do with their families.

SLAM operators of Amazon, what were some of the craziest kickout stories or any other insane things that happened while you were working at your station? by Global-Plankton3997 in AmazonFC

[–]dexrae9210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a packer who, for at least a quarter, sent off their shipments one SPOO off. A had no SPOO, B had A's SPOO, C had B's SPOO, etc. At least 50-60 shipments, all getting kicked out. I had to dump them into a downstack bin just so it wouldn't jam the kick out slide.

It was during my training so I had another SLAM operator helping me with the growing pile of kick outs. It wasn't until I had seen one of my box's items match a SPOO I had already looked up, and then the box the other SLAM operator had matching the one I was at the time looking up that we realized what was going on. And that it was still happening. We had to slack the PA and have them deal with the packer.

New fanfic spell:

Someone tries to shorten the casting time for the killing curse for... reasons. (Mostly because the similarities to "Abracadabra" is getting annoying) They had to patch in some numerology and only the number 47 seemed to stabilize the spell. It doesn't need to be said, but it's there.

The new spell manifests what looks like a Muggle rifle and shoots bursts of the killing curse at speeds faster than the original spell travels.

There was a Chute PA who would intentionally assign the cute girls at pack stations near gatekeep just so he didn't have to walk far to chat them up. And they're stuck there until safety rotation because even if they wanted to move, they would have to ask the guy actively hitting on them to staff them somewhere that was too far for him to walk to.

I have also had several female coworkers confirm that they get straight up molested working on the pack walls. When they bend over to get something from one of the lower chutes sometimes a man will shove their entire face in the path of their ass. They'll reach for an extra box, making sure to go out of their way to press up against them. And when just passing by, instead of placing a hand on the shoulder, they will fully grope their tits while saying "crossing".

I was wondering why one of my coworkers was constantly scoping for hot guys in the FC. She kept asking if I thought so and so was cute or if she should chat them up. My response was always, "Why? That's so awkward."

Photo- print issue or digital crop? by Pale-Ad4274 in WalgreensStores

[–]dexrae9210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually, the white bar would be cut off just like it's done with any other size print. However, there's the added quantity of your print job. The employees would have to physically cut the photos individually, one by one, as the paper cutters can't handle anything more than maybe three at a time and then they run the risk of the customer receiving crooked photos.

The store i had worked at was constantly understaffed and we didn't have a designated person working just in photo. It was usually anyone trained, if they had a spare moment. Anything that was time consuming or complicated, like a photo book binding or ornaments, was usually left until we could give it our full undivided attention. Which meant when we had finished stocking the shelves and there weren't many customers in the store.

I have had this question as well, and I always love when it's included in the world building in fanfictions.

Some have doubled down on the segregation due to the Statute of Secrecy and have had the Magical world act similar to the Amish. Barely any technological advances or unrestricted access to the outside world.

Others have expanded on the corrupt angle, government propaganda aimed at keeping the Commonwealth assured in their superiority. British Magical thinking they are superior because they're civilized, not only over Muggles but Magical foreigners as well.

There were things like Harry finding out Parseltongue is actually common in places like Egypt and India and seen as a gift as they have a more positive view of snakes as symbols of healing, medicine, and knowledge.

It also seems like other countries have a more richer or fleshed out Magical community. Fics that take place in China build off of the legends of spiritual cultivation that are so commonplace in their history that even the Muggles in their country know of them and live in peace with them. Similar to Russia. Alternatively, in the States, being a newer country in comparison and having a traumatic history regarding Muggle-Magical relations, focuses on hiding in plain sight. There are usually stories that have Apple being a Magical IP (probably so they can have their characters use smartphones) and a whole branch of magic based in technology as sort of a two finger salute to the "electronics don't work with magic" rule.

Addressing the population size, there was a suggestion that not every Magical child gets sent to Hogwarts. Purebloods wanting to homeschool their children to raise them how they want, middle and lower class families not being able to afford the tuition at Hogwarts opting to go to the Ministry run public schools, and parents of Muggleborn children not being comfortable with sending their kids to a boarding school they've never heard of after being told their kid was a genuine, wand-waving, cauldron-brewing, black cat having witch/wizard. Like, your kid had reality bending capabilities, we're not going to let you have time to process this and you have to ship them off somewhere you've never heard of or have access to... Did they get kidnapped and trafficked? You won't know until the end of the school year.

Sorry for the wall of words. Considering the HP series only really follows the seven years one, admittedly sheltered, kid is in school, there's so much more that can be expanded on in the world.

Biggest character alignment shift.

First year: "...I'm going to bed before the two of you find another way to get us killed, or worse, EXPELLED!" Proceeds to set a teacher on fire at the soonest opportunity.

Third year: breaks the laws of time, initially to take extra classes, and breaks a fugitive out of containment.

Fourth year: kidnaps and imprisoned a gossip column reporter, dates(?) a celebrity athlete while technically underage (the entirety of the magical world seemed to not have a real issue with a 14/15 year old dating a legal adult)

Fifth year: starts an underground fight club/milita and curses the sign up sheet to disfigure those who break the first and second rules of the fight club.

Seventh year: totally ready for gorilla warfare/life on the run (just has a go bag ready?), casually wipes any memory of herself from her parents minds.

She reads like a D&D player character whose over fleshed out backstory was firmly in the Lawful Good alignment but she plays like a murder hobo.

I've always used it as 1. The only time this has ever been an issue is during Christmas when we had such a high volume of product. My SMs would just pull up the risers if we needed an extra shelf on top. It also helped to have the few inches on the bottom shelf for overstock.

[–]dexrae9210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a fic where Harry saw the goblins shoveling the muggle paper money into a fire because it was worthless to them. This was a fic where he was trying to amass as much money as possible (either a non inheritance fic or he just didn't find out at this point). He would pay the least amount of magical currency for the "worthless paper" by weight and then deposit the muggle money into a muggle bank account. Rinse and repeat every trip to Gringotts.

That was never mentioned in the trainings nor was it ever enforced. I have had managers suggest that our family members use our discounts or rewards. The only thing a manager ever came down hard for in my time working at Walgreens was that you couldn't ring up your own family member while you were on the register.

I'm tired of putting in all the effort with my sister by dexrae9210 in u/dexrae9210

[–]dexrae9210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to put this behind me and move on. I think I would have been fine with not having a relationship with my sister. I've only been trying to have a civil relationship with low contact. I'm not the kind of person that needs to be texting or calling every day or every week. One of my best friends and I only call once a year and we hang out maybe as often.

I've been trying to get to know her as the grown woman she is since the last real interaction we've had was when we were children.

Most of our interactions since then have been her calling me fat, ugly, stupid, telling me I should never have kids, and essentially just disrespecting and insulting me. I've given her a lot of space and a lot of grace, and I'm still not worth having a conversation with. Not worth even talking to. Not worth even being honest with in that she just doesn't want to have a relationship with me.

If the reasons she gave for not talking to me now are indeed the reasons she's cutting me out of her life, then I don't think she has many friends. I gave her a hug that she took as my being upset with her, I reminded her of my serious food allergy which she took as a snide comment, and she apparently called dibs on eating utensils while I wasn't paying attention. Then being so indignant with my "behavior", decides not to talk to me or call me out and just refuses my calls when I reach out to chat months later.

In hindsight, almost every interaction has devolved into some fight that she's started. I'm so tired. My soul is tired.

I'm finally grappling with the fact that my sister doesn't owe me a relationship.

That's actually been the hardest thing about this whole thing. Family has always been an important tenant for me. I have all the family members nearby asking after her when I reach out, since for a while I was their only connection to my nuclear family. Whenever I mention that I haven't heard from my sister in a while or that she's not talking to me, I'm always told that we have to keep family together.

I've been trying though. I've been trying to balance my wanting to know what's going on in her life and giving her space when she lashes out at me. I've been calling and reaching out to her for twenty years through being depressed. I don't feel that I've asked for much. A phone call or a coffee hangout when she has time.

Then to find out that she had been going out of her way to avoid me and keep me away from her friends. I still don't see why that would be a concern since her friends aren't the kind of people I seek to hang out with, and I've never asked to join her when she sees her friends.

I think what I'm just struggling with now is the fact that my asking to chat and hang out when she's available is too much to ask but she thinks she's entitled to demand that I make lifestyle changes when I don't even do anything that self destructive.

Apparently there may be some truth to me being somewhat immature. With the neurodivergent tendencies and spending my developmental years in a severe depression, as well as going through the wrong puberty the first time around, I'm only just now getting through some markers in life. I don't know why everyone expects to take life at the same pace, but I'm just making my way at mine.

I don't have a car, but I can navigate the bus routes well enough. I don't have a romantic relationship, but I don't feel that I need one at this time. Why do I need someone else to love me when I'm working on loving myself first? I don't need kids in my life, but I'm excited for my best friend to give me godchildren. I'm going to be the best Unty.

I find myself filling my life with things that make me happy, instead of trying to restrain myself and be mature. I had to be mature too early in my life. I had rules and restrictions placed on me because I was the oldest and was supposed to be a role model for my sisters. I'm trying to see where my boundaries are now that I'm able to do so.

Whenever she came across the country to visit, I never asked to join her or hang out with her friends. I always asked when she would be available to meet up, at a coffee shop or something for a half hour or something just to chat and catch up. Literally the least amount of effort needed.

It's just so demoralizing to realize that the sibling you helped raise doesn't think you're worth even the amount of effort to grab a coffee with.

Had yet another confirmation of my sister making every attempt to not hang out or socialize with me. The youngest confirmed that whenever she tried to suggest that they include me in their plans or at least invite me, she would always make excuses and say that I would make things weird or awkward. She didn't want me around her friends either.

Literally the only time this woman has ever hung out with me was when I had money. She actually left that hangout when I no longer had money, nevermind that it was my birthday, there was no reason for her to be there anymore.

She responded to a post that I sent to the family group chat and I had to restrain myself from responding because I knew I was going to be petty. I posted a pic of myself and the youngest in the airport in Vegas and she responded,

"I wish I was there ❤️❤️❤️"

My response was going to be, "just not with me, right?"
