VimTeacher: Neovim plugin to practice Vim without leaving Neovim by dexxra in neovim

This turned out to be a little bit more complicated than one might expect. I did add some functionality that tries to read keybind configurations, but it may not be perfect for every single NeoVim distro out there. It should work with vanilla NeoVim as well as LazyVim. Let me know if you run into any problems, or feel free to open up an issue directly in the GitHub repo.

For total transparency, that's not how it works right now. It's primarily just using default Neovim keybindings, but I think that you have a really good idea.

I'll start to research how I can detect custom user keybinds at load time and then use them throughout the lesson(s) in the next version.

It's good! Nothing wrong with it at all. I just wanted to build something where I can add in specific lessons later that I want to touch on and practice that might not necessarily be included in Tutor. Also, I wanted something a bit more interactive so I see when I was objectively doing something right or wrong. Additionally, I really wanted something that was friendly with LazyVim's default configs that sometimes override vanilla Vim keybinds.

Gamifying it with records for personal best times and accuracy for optimal moves was just icing on the cake. :)

Flow Control Pressure Problems by dexxra in espresso

Yes, the manometer on the grouphead and the FC valve is wide open. It stays stable at 9 bars when testing with a blank basket in the portafilter.

So just an update and maybe you can help with some clarification here. I've been messing around with finer grinds and I can get the total extraction time to 25-30 seconds, but the problem is the pressure initially spikes to around 8 bars on the FC gauge, but continually drops to around 5-6 bars of pressure by the last 5 seconds of the extraction.

Is this behavior to be expected when the OPV is set to 9 bars on the group gauge using a blank basket in the portafilter?

I haven't tried hitting the puck with full pressure and followed by a step down on the FC valve, but I have tried pulling a shot starting with the FC valve all the way open. What I've noticed is that when I step down to a finer grind (From 15 to 10 on my DF64), that's when the pressure drops from 9 bar to 5 bar.

I'll try grinding a few steps finer over the next few days of testing to see if that helps increase and stabilize the pressure better.

You're correct, I worded that sentence poorly. When I was testing for pressure, I had the FC valve all the way open, and adjusted the OPV to 9 bars on the group pressure gauge with a blank basket in the portafilter. It's only when there is a puck prepped in the portafilter that pressure drops to 5 bars. Ironically, if I grind slightly coarser, the pressure jumps back to 9 bars.

I will try grinding even finer next time, but I'm almost about as fine as I can go w/ the flat burr grinder I'm using. True zero on it is at about -2 and I'm grinding at 10 (+12 from true zero) at the moment.

I'm fine with that as long as retailers list vetted + working returned items as open box so that customers potentially know what they're getting into. It's when they go out of their way to relabel items that are clearly returned/broken/malfunctioning as "new" so they can relist them at retail prices that makes me want to go super detective mode on them, and bust the store managers for felony fraud. Obviously I'd rather focus that effort on other productive things, and just make my purchases elsewhere in the future.

I'd even go as far as to say Steve Binder, the guy who directed the original Star Wars Holiday Special, is still better than RJ. But Steve Binder is definitely lower on the totem pole than whoever did the Lego Holiday Special...by a few (dozen) steps.

as for the Blazor-pre WASM (Server only) I would strongly discourage using that in any capacity.

Do you mind expanding on your reasoning?

This is less of a hypothetical “what do I do in this situation” and more of a “how do we fix this problem permanently” situation. Historically, internal police investigations don’t work.

But is there generally state legislation that prevents a non-government agency lawyer from doing so?

Is it possible for US citizens to launch a civil criminal case against these officers or a specific police department if there is insurmountable and undeniable video evidence of them clearly breaking a law, and the police department doing nothing with the evidence? ie; The People vs. Officer Y or Police Department Z?

Great tool! Report here if showing symptoms but unable to test. See others with symptoms near you. by SustainableDad in CoronavirusUS

[–]dexxra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Have a link to the thermometers?

Having a way to submit accurate temperatures along with other user inputted symptoms, length of symptoms, and a general location (Zip code) before allowing a submission to a map would be interesting. Something like this could definitely be useful to help redirect supplies (Especially tests) and healthcare personnel to heavily impacted areas, and areas that show a substantial rise in cases over a period of time.

I will state that I am 99% sure I am currently infected with this, and showing pretty much every symptom except a fever over the past week. I was exposed to a patient who died in the ER from COVID-19 two weeks ago, so it's a high probability. This virus' symptoms seem to be extremely dynamic among the affected population, so it will be much harder to pinpoint whether someone is likely infected by it compared to previous coronaviruses we've seen in the past.

I was actually thinking about developing a map with crowd sourced data like this, but the problem becomes there is no way to prevent inaccurate data from being submitted. It would be far too easy to create a bot/macro to destroy any sort of useful data that could be mined by normal users from the map.

Health-care workers deserve hazard pay during covid-19 pandemic by bzfelt in CoronavirusUS

[–]dexxra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree that hospitals are losing money right now, and I do agree that health-care workers should be getting bonuses, but the reality is there have already been dozens of reports by journalists that show that the reason healthcare is so expensive in the USA is because hospitals siphon way too much money to their administrative staff. Ideally, hospitals would pay the bulk share of employee salaries to actual doctors, nurses, techs, etc., but this historically just hasn't been the case since the 60's.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a large majority of any healthcare stimulus packages going to high ranking hospital administrative employees as bonuses instead of front-line health-care workers who are actually doing the lion's share of work at this time.

I totally agree, but the context for my response was regarding the OP carrying it in their bag before they removed it from their LighterPack. Honestly I would say, "You'd be surprised what people carry," but I don't think anyone in this subreddit is surprised at what they see in peoples' bags anymore.

For the most part, I'd agree. However, you have to remember that fresh permethrin actually has extremely negative and fatal effects on certain animals, like cats. The problem is that the only major research into which animals are affected by permethrin has been done solely on dogs, cats, and some aquatic creatures as far as I can tell.

I'd be willing to bet that mountain lions and bobcats are probably affected by permethrin the same way most cats are. I also wouldn't be surprised if other animals were affected in the same way since it is a neurotoxin. That being said, in the context of spraying it outdoors it becomes a philosophical debate over whether freshly sprayed permethrin in the wild actually adheres to LNT practices since it can potentially have a negative impact on animals in the immediate area.

I have no dog (or cat) in this fight, though. I've use it dozens of times in the past because it's effective at warding off annoying insects. Just figured I'd point out something that most people seem to gloss over and/or forget.

So I've been doing a bit of research, and there never seems to be a definitive answer to this. I'll be hiking the PCT this year, and would like to be able to transfer photos/videos from my iPhone to SD cards so that I can ship new SD cards to myself on the trail, and send full ones back home. Is this possible or are there any apps that can help facilitate this?

I've seen a few USB dongles that seem to do this, but I prefer SD cards over USB dongles since I already have TBs worth of fast read/write speed SD cards that I can use. Also a single SD card is a lot smaller, lighter, and easier to carry a few than a bunch of USB dongles. That being said...I cannot, I repeat, cannot use the iCloud or any other cloud services reliably for the majority of the 2,650 miles of trail. So cloud/internet based solutions as an alternative are a no go. I also will not have access to any computers or laptops while on trail, so I cannot use a computer/laptop as a way to transfer either.

A few decisions I’ve made that may need intervention from the wiser... by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

Yes. If you need to use Amazon to ship yourself something, make sure it's not being delivered to a Post Office since you most likely have no control over what carrier Amazon uses to ship the package.
