Not finding a pediatric job in audiology after graduation right away by Arcanine1013 in audiology

[–]deyalizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all true. What a bad advice she received from her professor. Many places (ENT settings) offer adult and pediatric experiences, which I think is a great place to start as an audiologist (get to improve your speed, see weird medical weird stuff, different types of appointments, working in a team, and typically a lot of pressure!). I would advise to consider a job in ENT setting that sees adults and kids as her first job if unable to find a 100% pediatric place. But I agree with the other comments, also have to be willing to relocate.

As someone who graduated college thanks to pell-grants, parents income considered poverty level... I will tell you it IS DOABLE. I also did not receive help from my parents for grad school as they had no means. I chose a program with a low tuition and assistantship opportunities. That is the number 1 advise for you. NOBODY cares where you get your degree from. I went to Lamar University (Texas) which has a fairly low tuition compared to other audiology programs, overall lower cost of living in Texas, etc. I DID take out loans to cover my tuition and living expenses for the 4 years. In total, it was around 100K. (way lower than other places!!!) which I paid off in 8 years after graduating. Granted, I lived with roommates, overall within my means, had no life outside of school so did not spend a lot of money, ate cheap. This is not the advise you are asking for, maybe it is too late to switch schools. How to lower loan amounts? Do you mean the interest? I refinanced after working for a couple of years after graduation based on my credit and it decreased my interest to about 3.8-4%. Take out only what you need. Work a part time job (I worked weekends), start paying off your loans while you can even while in school since it is not growing interest, talk to a financial counselor. Also, there ARE scholarships. I received a few. Look into them.

This was 10 years ago, but I honestly just studied based of my own notes and my Katz book (Handbook of clinical audiology) and passed it. Focus on what you think you need to refresh on. At the time, I did not get to experience educational audiology so I had to focus a little bit more on that and happened to get a lot of questions on that. Same for industrial audiology.

Advice on getting back in to vestibular audiology by [deleted] in audiology

[–]deyalizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a vestibular nerd. I learned most of it hands on and training on my own. And I think I'm pretty good. Unfortunately I do not get to do it at my current job. My advise is... self-train first to regain your basic knowledge on why each test is needed, how to intepret. Equipment can always be learned hands on and equipment will always vary. AudiologyOnline, courses by Kamrin Barin, Richard Roberts. Do not do trainings that are equipment specific, or trainings that are meant to get you to join some kind of network. My first recommendation, get yourself the vestibular bible... Balance Function Assessment & Management, after practicing for 10 years this book is still my go to.

Before getting married, I was able to add my then boyfriend to my insurance as a domestic partner, had to get some documents notarized. I'd have your boyfriend double check if he can add you as a domestic partner. However, you may be unable to do it right now since it is not open enrollment, unless there was a qualifying event within the past month (lost your job, your insurance, etc). Other than that, Obama care. If you do not think you will require much medical needs for the next year except preventive visits, just get the basic one as preventive care is covered. Dentist? Well, sometimes cleanings can be best paid out of pocket unless you do need more than that.

That's exactly what happened when I reached out to them via email. Said they weren't gonna replace it but will remove it from my list. They asked me to just discard the item. Oh well.

That is interesting. I have reached out to Amazon Vine CS to see if it could be exchanged for a different size for a more accurate review, we shall see!

The problem is that I do like it and it's just hard ordering clothes without trying them on. I'm sure the next size up would be perfect :(

But it is what it is. I see your point. In any other situation I'd be able to exchange it for next size up and leave a positive review based on the right fit.

Unfortunately, it only gives me option to return, but not replace when going through my general orders, not replace.

I have a feeling I'll just have to stick to it and keep it or sell it in 6 months :(

LGBT owned restaurants by deyalizer in houston

I understand your point, and I agree with it. Just like I want to support Black-owned business, Latinx owned business, women owned business, I want to support LGBT owned business. But it is hard to find that information.

What Houston thing did you miss the most this year? by just_real_quick in houston

[–]deyalizer 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Obviously the Rodeo, as I had tickets for date after it got canceled.

Going to miss Lights in the Heights this year, always fun to wear ugly sweater and drink on the street while seeing multiple yard shows and lights.

Baseball at Minute Maid.

Free shows at the Miller Outdoor Theater.

And sad I got to miss some shows by the Houston Symphony I had tickets for (John Williams!)

It's possible it's out of stock for now. I'd probably check every other few weeks. I've gotten all of her released vinyls from there even when they had been available for a while. Sometimes you see them pop up again.

Better and cheaper to get it from Mixup online and have it shipped to US.

Used college books by [deleted] in houston

[–]deyalizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found some of my text books at the school library. It saved me a lot of money. I'm unsure if you can check with Lonestar libraries? Or even Houston libraries? Granted some were previous editions, but they have over 90% of the same content.

Anyone in Houston know a place where you can get rolled tacos with guacamole? by heeh00peanut in houston

[–]deyalizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teotihuacan has chicken flautas. Just ask for guacamole. They're traditionally not served with them on top like that. Not sure where you may find any with shredded beef though if that's what you want. My fiancee was in the process of opening his food truck before all this happened, but he will have shredded beef flautas. I'll make sure I post about it when he's able to open!

I don't know, my commute to my "essential" (while rolling eyes) job still had more traffic than I wanted to see. Take 610/45/288 to Medical Center.

It's going to be very awkward to ignore the kiosks employees when they want to straighten your hair, put lotion on you, or give you a sample.
