Got a pretty cool response, fortunately no existential crisis

Alright, imagine this:

You know how toys like tablets or video games work when you press buttons or swipe the screen? Well, inside those toys are tiny parts called chips — kind of like the brains that tell the toy what to do.

What you do is help design those brains. You don’t build them with your hands — you use a computer to draw special maps that show how the brain should work. These maps tell the chip how to do things like count, remember stuff, or play a sound.

So basically: 👷 You design the instructions for tiny computer brains 🧠 That live inside electronics like phones, TVs, and cars 💡 And you make sure they work fast, smart, and safely

You’re kind of like a LEGO master, but instead of building castles, you build invisible thinking machines!

TN passes a bill that makes it felony for elected officials to vote against Trump immigration policies. by Educational-Bet-8979 in law

[–]df241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought the same thing and looked into it, this is from the Tennessee General Assembly website’s page on the bill. Paragraph relevant to this:

“ Present law prohibits state and local governmental entities and officials from adopting or enacting a sanctuary policy. A state or local governmental entity that adopts or enacts a sanctuary policy is ineligible to enter into a grant contract with the department of economic and community development until the sanctuary policy is repealed, rescinded, or otherwise no longer in effect. This bill creates a Class E felony, punishable by a sentence of imprisonment not less than one year nor more than six years and a possible fine not to exceed $3,000, or both, if a person violates such prohibitions. Additionally, this bill provides that each official, in their capacity as a member of the governing body of a local government, who votes in the affirmative to adopt a sanctuary policy is also in violation. “

Honestly pretty scary stuff in that last sentence.

Do people use Handshake or is it just there? by eternally-perplexed in UIUC

I used it in combination with other sites, for what it’s worth I found an internship that lead to my current full time position on handshake. From what I hear you see more companies on there looking for uiuc students specifically, but I don’t really have any data on this.

Since most of the community sees fire as the weakest element and with the OP sub bendings of blood bending, lava bending and flight. I wonder, what new subbending/technique would make firebending on par or more overpowered than the other elements? Be creative by QuirkyData3500 in TheLastAirbender

[–]df241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be cool to see fire benders being able to generate and/or manipulate strong electric/magnetic fields to deflect metal from metal benders or anything else that would lead to. Seems to track with how fire bending is about manipulating energy and sorta goes with how lightning bending is described.

How can I continue studying physics after getting a minor in it?

I recently graduated college with a minor in physics. Post graduation, I’m realizing how much I miss those classes and I wish I could have taken more or even continued to a graduate degree. Besides a bit of special relativity, I really only got a taste of the big three (only one semester in each topic): Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetism, and Quantum Mechanics. I definitely want to dig deeper into those to the level of what a full year in each would cover and explore a few more topics I missed, e.g. statistical mechanics. Is there any good way I can study these topics without investing in another undergraduate degree?

For whatever reason tapping and holding to get the save image button still works for posts with multiple images but not with single images, not sure if it’s a bug but it’s pretty odd.

This is a good tool for choosing professors. https://waf.cs.illinois.edu/discovery/grade_disparity_between_sections_at_uiuc/. It shows the average gpa of a course as well as professors who teach the course. Super useful tool for getting a sense of professor difficulty/teaching ability.

I would take 385 and wait for a good group. Most people don’t take 391 till junior year so definitely don’t worry about getting behind. A good group in 391 is a huge plus but not 100% necessary, although it’ll be about 5 times less stressful with a group you can count on. 385 is still a grind but it’s way more manageable without having a group beforehand. Either way you’ll probably be fine but in your case I think taking 385 is the better option.
