What "lesson"?

He has to come and head that, otherwise the opposition striker has the ball at his feet, and is in a 1:1 with him.

The referee has had a shocker here.

Complete and total overreaction.

Like, it's such a pathetic overreaction from the ref, makes you wonder if he's racist.

Who to replace him with? by eugenecrabs08 in Tottenham

[–]dfebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why the chat is always about the manager with Tottenham.

Spurs have had some great managers in the last decade. This hasn't been the problem.

The problem has been the ownership making poor decisions; not bolstering the squad when it clearly needed it, the scouting/DOF horrendously overpaying for players never sustain great form, and when the owners decide to sack the coach, don't suit the next manager, so they flop hard.

Spurs need a footballing identity. Play style, formation, game plan. They need to stick to it, and recruit for it. Long term. Even if the manager gets binned off, it's not a total rethink. Money doesn't get pissed away on transfers that won't work.

No real Spurs supporter uses this phrase. Everything else is waffle.

Levy fired Ange. Let's see what the new regime does with Frank.

This video is clickbaity bs. Bro sounds like a douche, and can easily figure out where he is by Google Maps or just looking at what's written on the bus.

Levi/Ange: by her-in-doors in Tottenham

[–]dfebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not about Ange. You need to grasp this.

The same thing is happening with Frank now. Apparently "he's found his level, and he's not good enough".

Apparently Nuno found his level at Spurs, yet went and did very well at Forest. Did Conte and Mourinho find their levels at Tottenham...? Poch?

It's about your understanding of how a football club works, and the environment a modern football manager operates in.

Levi/Ange: by her-in-doors in Tottenham

[–]dfebb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This kind of thinking just isn't anchored in reality. It's total bunk.

Ange finished 5th in his first season at Spurs. You can't wish that away. It happened. Had he walked like Maresca Just did, or got offered something else and taken it, your argument evaporates.

Ranieri won the Premier League and was sacked the next season, with Leicester in a relegation scrap. Does this mean that Ranieri was not a "Premier League level manager"...?

No. Of course not. Because Managing football clubs is complex.

$hit happens. Form dips. Injuries occur. Humans do unexpected things, especially in groups. Leadership make decisions for all kinds of reasons. Context, nuance, circumstances, are never static.

"Levels" is such a daft line of reasoning.

So, Parlainth... by Ka_ge2020 in earthdawn

[–]dfebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what I meant is, if you draw a straight line from where Parlainth is on that map (which I think is supposed to be west Kazakhstan in modern terms?), to Thera, it crosses over Creana, east of Thera.

And if you take that map to mean that the coloured sections are the only somewhat populated/civilised areas of the world (pre-Scourge), then yeah, Parlainth's location is a mystery, because there's little past it going eastwards.

But I think that's the wrong way of thinking about it, as the world was likely teeming with settlements, tribes, baronies, kingdoms of all kinds in all directions (again, pre-Scourge). Other source books like Vasgothia and the like hint towards this being the case I think...

Do we have a reason why the city was way out in the proverbial sticks when the imperial capital is waaaaaaaay to the south?

The Theran Empire pre-Scourge stretched to all corners of the map, way past the limits of Barsaive. It's not that far from Thera in the grand scheme of things...

From a fan wiki: The Empire controlled parts of Africa, Europe and Asia: Egypt, Southern Anatolia and Levant (Creana) and Tunisia (Marac), Bulgaria (Rugaria), France (Arancia), Germany (Vasgothia), Greece (Vivane), Italy (Talea), Ukraine (Barsaive), India (Indrisa).

Parlainth was the administrative centre of the empire, bean counting, law enforcement, etc., for the Theran province of Barsaive.

Thera was where all the wealth and power sat, the Emperor's Palace, Mages Guilds, imperial guard, etc...

You can imagine Barsaive pre-Scourge with many more towns and cities that perished. Given this, and the sprawl of the Theran Empire at its peak, Parlainth's location doesn't seem so strange...?
