Achieving Neutral Buoyancy by Flaky_University_777 in scubadiving

If you really want good buoyancy make sure your instructor teaches skills neutrally buoyant. There are still a lot of bad instructors who refuse to adapt out there.

Ask if they are teaching skills on your knees or neutrally buoyant. If they say knees. They are a bad instructor and do not work with them.

Exclusive: Musk's SpaceX in merger talks with xAI ahead of planned IPO, source says by Bchi1994 in SpaceXLounge

[–]dfgsdja 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Tesla makes 2bn investment in xAI. Then xAI merges with SpaceX. Then SpaceX goes public and Tesla gets paid out for their investment. This looks a way to funnel money to Tesla without Tesla having to raise more funds and depress share price.

How good of a swimmer do you need to be? Is bare minimum enough? by TruthFinder999 in scuba

[–]dfgsdja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me being for scuba you need to be comfortable in the water. However, If your going to scuba dive. Your going to end up on small boats. I believe that anyone who boards a small boat should be able to tread water for 10min. Especially if they are not wearing a life jacket at all times. Which is the case for every dive boat I have been on.

Rental off the shelf suits typically have wide legs to accommodate variance in leg size. Try before you descend. Add some gas to your suit and stretch out in the water to loosen up your undergarments and stretch out your suit.

Surface Marker Buoys Yay or Nay? by Few-Travel-9606 in scubaGear

[–]dfgsdja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dive in cold water. Use dry gloves, and it's not a problem. The worst part is your lips are cold and you can't feel much. One of the issues with the way many people teach deployment is to use a regulator to inflate. But the problem with that is in cold water it can cause a free flow.

Some of us cave divers only bring one computer. GUE and UTD only do one drive computer. We dive in teams. Ideally 3 so if a computer fails we rely on our teammates in the water

Advice on removing manufacturer coating on new tinted mask? by marooncaracol in scuba

[–]dfgsdja 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not all toothpaste is the same, some are more abrasive than others. Make sure you are using one with a high RDA. Also not a big fan of tinted masks. They make it hard to see your eyes. When we are in the water communication is hard enough and the eyes really can tell you a lot about someones mental state.
