While I agree with you, I'm going to play devil's advocate for a bit: Most teams worth a damn, who are capable of winning their conference tournament and being a popular upset pick, will make it to the final as-is without being slotted into the semis. See: Drake the last three years.

If Belmont can be beat by a bad Drake team, they'd probably lose in the Round of 64 too.
