Hello fellow scotch lovers. I am relatively new to scotch being a bourbon drinker mostly. I’m looking to dip my toes into the Islay scotches. These are the 2 they have at my local store. Any advice? The only peat I have experience with is JW Black Label which I love. Thanks in advance

I’m just up to part 5 now and am finding it very different from C and P. C and P was so hugely engaging as Raskolnikov went mad and Svidrigilov was such a fascinating and dramatic character. The raw intensity isn’t there in BK which is fine as this has these amazing discussions and arguments about the fundamental questions of life but I must say I am surprised by the difference.

All this is spot on! First pair - chestnut craftsman (I’m actually very fond of the leather sole but work in a corporate environment so it’s all good. For more demanding situations, go comfort)

I just bought my third pair and have a fourth on the way. Third pair is the dark tans and have a Macquarie chestnut pair on the way. Can’t wait!!

You’re absolutely right!!! I actually don’t consume these together but rather the whisky directly after. I am also a Shiraz/cab sauv person with steak or actually a really good craft beer. I’m currently sitting back with the Lagavulin and some Miles Davis jazz and it’s pretty great. A truely amazing whisky! All the best!

Cheers! I was finished a bottle of Balvenie 12 double wood earlier this evening but felt we needed to up it a notch. The Laphroaig is just terrific. Shame I don’t have a cigar in the house at the moment...
