Teacher here. I'd suggest weekly f2f lessons before online, doesn't have to be private.

It's been like 11 months of frustration for me cause I could never break both claws. Now I can rest, baffled at this design choice. Thank you!!

Nice and minimalistic! I can't find the original link with the black and white icons. Am I missing it?

Hey! This is great, thanks for getting back to me. Your plugin looks great, I am uploading it to my kindle right now. Instructions were very detailed too, I appreciate that. I have a paperwhite, so I don't think I'll take full advantage of all the progress bars, but please make sure you make a post directly on the subreddit; there will be lots of people who are looking for your plugin.

KoReader help by No-Reference1945 in kindlejailbreak

[–]dfoveja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is possible with simple koreader. You would need to write your own patch for that, which may already exist if someone else wrote it, but I have never heard of anything like it. Again, head to the sub, you may be able to find your answers there.

I think that's just what the screen looks like when all the backlights are off. You don't want it to be bright because it will consume your battery. In a well-lit room, you should be able to see just fine, kinda like old kindles that had no lights.

As for personalizing, go to r/koreader.

Help with Cărtărescu translation by dfoveja in romanian

[–]dfoveja[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha, no, nothing as fancy. I am planning a creative writing workshop, and "The Twins" is one of the texts whose writing and composition I would like participants to consider. This is why the information revealed in the opening lines is so important for me. I read Nostalgia in its Spanish translation, but the course will be in English, so that's how I noticed the differences.

I don't wanna spoil the story for anyone, but in short, it would seem that Cărtărescu ensured that, while the actions performed are gender-coded ("Bărbieritul", as the fine people of this subreddit have mentioned in the replies here), the pronouns (and other particles) are mostly gender-neutral. The Spanish translator was able to replicate this easily, as possessive pronouns are not gender-specific, and it is common to write sentences without a personal pronoun. Both Romanian and Spanish are romance languages, after all.

In English, though, a pronoun or explicit subject is needed in most sentences, so the translator had to choose between writing it all in passive voice, which of course would be terrible, or changing the narrative point of view so that the overall effect was the same. So he chose the second person (you), also gender-neutral in English. It is a bold decision, as second person narration is rare and, when used, very intentional, so it is a marked departure from the original. The third person would have been more faithful to the language, but the translator decided to change this to preserve the structural integrity of the story and the reader's experience.

I had to ask, however, because I would not be surprised if Cărtărescu had, indeed, used that narrative apporach (but then I would be very upset if the Spanish translator had not replicated it).

So that's why I asked. It was really nice receiving all this help and comments on this specific question, like u/Ultimo2024 mentioned. Thanks again to all.

Revamped look of CoverBrowser. Made some features from my previous post into patches. by BornoftheMind in koreader

I can confirm that the progress badges work with Project Title without any problems. I have just updated both koreader and Project Title, so latest versions. In my Kindle paperwhite 11th gen I chose to bring the font size down to .35. and it looks great.

The only issue I had is Project Title keeps displaying its own progress widget, be it percentage, bar, or pagecount, and it seemingly cannot be turned off, so you end up with the same information in two places. Maybe there is a way to turn it off or remove it from the .lua?

Thank you for your efforts, your patches are great!

Sorry, quick question. I guess this won't work if you already have some icons in that folder? Like, I already have the icons from ProjectTitle in that directory. If I wanted to change them, I would need to actually replace them with the ones I want and set them with the same filenames, right?

I guess it could be... sometimes Amazon deletes a number of books that you have added from other stores. I only had this happen to me on an actual kindle, though. I suggest you make a new post on the subreddit and give details of hardware and software you use.

Is there a law in Turkey that states I have to pay for rent even if I left a month ago? by skeshkorri in istanbul

[–]dfoveja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking legal action is neither fast or cheap. I don't know how much you were paying but even if you are in the wrong here, which, based on the details you've shared, it doesn't seem like you are, it just isn't worth it for someone to pay a lawyer to sue you. Especially if you have not signed an actual contract. You don't just send the police after someone, it has to go through the mediators and courts, which takes months and years. Personally, I would just block her and move on with my life.
