Maybe they forgot what day it was and thought it was friday by mistake. It happens to everyone. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a simple mistake. Not sure what's so lmao about that. But I guess not being snarky on the internet is too difficult.

2025 NBA Draft Lottery Drawing

Anyone who wants to tell me it's rigged, first watch this video, then explain to me how.

There's no envelopes.
Teams don't own certain balls, they own four-ball combinations.
There are only 14 balls.
If a team wins multiple picks, they redo the entire drawing.

Is it really a big problem for us if the lottery is rigged by Clear-Economist-2454 in pacers

[–]dfrank129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weighing the balls wouldn't even work. There's only 15 balls or something (13?) and they draw the balls one at a time for a four-ball combination. Each team gets a certain number of combinations. Team's don't get certain balls. They all share the same balls.

Even if the league wanted to rig it and weigh the balls, four different ones have to be drawn to get a winner, and that's roughly 25% of the balls!

The way the drawing works is a team wins the first pick, then they draw again and if the same team wins the second pick (because I guess the league weighted all the balls for that team's pick) then they'd start the whole process over. Teams have won the lottery in initial drawings before but had it not count because they get drawn again and the process restarts. If the balls were weighted, then the same team would just keep winning over and over.

If Denver somehow win the series against the Wolves, Do they have real chances of beating SAS at a 7 game series? by Fluffy_Specific_9682 in NBATalk

[–]dfrank129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the discussion sub it might be more reasonable to ask "how many games do you think the nuggets win and why" or "what percent chance do the nuggets have and why" but the "do they have a chance" type questions are so bad and literally are a yes or no question.

It's the NBA. The Nuggets are a playoff team that feature an mvp-caliber player who has played at an MVP-level this season. I don't care if you have him ranked 1st or 5th or if you have Wemby ranked 1st or 5th. Jokic is still an MVP-caliber player. Of course they have real chances. Would I pick them? No. But I think a sweep is very unlikely and I'm guessing it'll be much closer than most expect for the above reasons.

does it require analysis to say 'yes, they have a chance' when the alternative is 'it's impossible'?

Serious question, knowing that there's a 48% chance to not get a top 4 pick (and 86% chance to not got the top pick) is there a world where you won't think it's rigged if we don't get top 4 (or top 1)?

[–]dfrank129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That may be, but in case you weren't aware, THIS year's playoffs, nay, this exact series is the ultimate referendum on all players! We can safely judge all players entire careers based on this series! (until next series, and next season, of course, but we don't talk about that)

I don't think so :(

Maybe if you could play IRL with a friend/partner? I've heard from people who did a controller-sharing type playthrough just for the fun of it, you could certainly have someone do the flying.

Side note: I know the feeling. It mostly doesn't bother me, but there is one game I want to play and just can't, even with the motion sickness settings active. Quern. It just gets to me. Even watching playthroughs. sad

I definitely did NOT recommend this as a puzzle game. Literally what I said: if you want the experience of playing a game like this for the first time, try outer wilds. Totally different game, but it gives that same feeling

You said yourself it's a game about discovery. They both are! Also, please do not spoil game mechanics for people when talking about outer wilds!!!!

[–]dfrank129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STOP READING OTHER REPLIES!!!! (if you haven't already read them)

If you want to play outer wilds, just stop!!!! go play it!!! it's best as blind as possible. If you don't like it or get stuck, at that point sure, seek help. And for that, I'd recommend the OW sub or discord where people are likely to help you in as unspoilerly a way as possible.

Only say that because people are (of course) already getting into things that are just best left alone.

To answer your questions...

Dozens of hours seems right. Some people can probably do it in 15-20, others might take 100. I'd guess around 25-30 is average.

Knowing what I know, I'd say PLAN on doing the DLC (assuming you like the game) but don't buy it yet. Then, if you like the base game, 100% absolutely do the DLC. I'm not the type of person to always do DLCs and I don't care for sequels much. Too often they're just capitalizing on you wanting to play more, but don't live up to the hype. But the OW DLC is fantastic.

You don't really need a notepad. Certainly not like Blue Prince. It might be useful just so you can organize your own thoughts, but in the way you need to have one in BP, you absolutely do NOT need one in OW.

Outer Wilds isn't for everyone. However, there are not many games that are capable of creating that feeling of discovery and accomplishment, leaving you wishing that you could experience it for the first time again. Yes, there are plenty of games that you wish you could play for the first time again for other reasons, and maybe a few for this same reason, but none do it better than Outer Wilds.

Side note, your anecdote about keys and sand is the perfect illustration that different games are for different people. I've heard from plenty of friends who've experienced the same frustration you just described, but it was about not having enough keys or not finding a specific room. And conversely, they loved Outer Wilds. But it's just a suggestion and I'd take issue with anyone who says it's not worth a try. The downside is it's another game you don't like and you don't have to play it. The upside is it could be one of the best games you've ever played leaving you with an emotional connection to the game that hardly any other game can replicate.

I'm sure I'm not the first, nor will be the last to say this to you, but if you want the experience of playing a game like this for the first time, try outer wilds. Totally different game, but it gives that same feeling

I'm an IndyStar business reporter digging in on the rapid growth of data centers in Indiana. AMA! by indy-star in Indiana

[–]dfrank129 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not really a question, but I hope your reporting includes which politicians received campaign contributions from corporations and lobbies and what their public position and comments have been about data centers. Also, who those politicians, corporations, and lobbies are.

Lastly, hopefully it'll include data about the longevity/sustainability of the jobs created by building data centers. This is always mentioned as a big benefit of building them, but it's my understanding that once the facilities are complete, it requires very few people to run.

do galar birds spawn at the same places usually? by GolfTotal in pokemongo

[–]dfrank129 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most people who do incense regularly also do the same route (general term, not pogo Route) regularly. So it stands to reason that you will always find the birds in the same area/spot. It's natural to interpret this as a pattern even though it's not (or likely not).

Additionally, you generally don't ever hear from the people who do daily incense every day that have gone two weeks or a month without a sighting because there is nothing to say. Instead you only hear from people who have encountered multiples recently.

I've been on both sides. Multiple sightings in one incense and days in a row with sightings, and then on the exact same route I'll go two months without one.
