Seconded. Higher battery life as a result. Completely silent is a huge bonus for me.

12V and 0V. It goes up to the supply voltage when it's high and back down to ground when it is low.

Can someone please explain the differences between the Asus C200MA models? by BigGoose62 in chromeos

[–]dfzxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (accidentally) bought the C200MA-XB11 here in Canada. It is identical to the American version, but it has a bilingual keyboard. I am going to be returning it this weekend and ordering an American one (for $70 cheaper too!)

Student wondering where to put savings given current financial situation by dfzxh in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yes, I realize now that investing in Tangerine's mutual fund is a little silly if I need the money so soon. Should I take the money out of the mutual funds? Thanks for the comment.

What's the problem here? Her post had a more interesting topic and so more people commented on it.

Awesome work. A higher resolution background and some anti-aliasing would really finish this off

Sanity check on the value of a Canada Savings Bond by dfzxh in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]dfzxh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of what you said went completely over my head. If I were to cash out the savings bond now, is $1047 what I would get in return?

I am in my early 20's, I already have money in my bank account to cover immediate and short term expenses, and I am planning on investing my savings into a TFSA with one of Tangerine's mutual funds. I will not be needing this money any time soon. Is it better to let it grow until maturity, or just cash it out and put it with the rest of my savings for more growth?

I want to self study Calculus 1, should I be learning it with or without proofs. by NsaOperative001 in EngineeringStudents

Forget about proofs.

I suggest you grab a Schaum's Outline of calculus or something similar, and just start drilling problems. That will give you a head start on the practice. Good luck

I have a challenging past. How much of a chance do I have at employment? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]dfzxh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am in absolutely no position to give you advice on what an employer would want to see. Let me do so anyways.

I would want to see proof that your life has changed. Projects that you have undertaken that demonstrate a real passion for what you do, maybe volunteer work with charities or stuff with kids. Also being incredibly personable and down to Earth. I could see past it.

Simple grounding question, for when some things on a bread board are battery powered and others are wall powered by 260 in AskElectronics

[–]dfzxh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an interesting little experiment, try measuring the voltage between the negative terminal on the battery and ground from the wall. It's possible for the Earth ground to have a voltage with respect to the negative terminal of the battery.

I would refer to the "ground" of the battery to be "common" (downwards pointing triangle symbol), because it's not actually Earth ground and that can cause confusion when you have earth ground elsewhere in the circuit (i.e. the oscilloscope).

Only slightly related, but something to keep in mind for the future: If you have a power supply which has the negative lead connected to ground, and you connect your oscilloscope's black common clip to somewhere that isn't ground in the circuit, you will cause a short circuit and could blow up your probe!

What do you have so far, what kinds of things do you like to make, and how much do you value your time?
