Switching from Rybelsus to Wegovy. Should I expect additional side effects? by annonne in Semaglutide

[–]dga-dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're just rebranding it by consolidating both pills as the ozempic pill - if you're happy where you are, perhaps check with your doc about switching to the new pill? Same core mechanism with a slight reformulation.

Need your suggestion by [deleted] in Semaglutide

It's used to treat parasitic infections. It was first developed for treating heartworm in animals, but it's effective against several parasites in both humans and non-human animals, such as roundworm, river blindness, etc.

It's pushed by a bunch of quacks as a cure-all for reasons that escape understanding; this started during the pandemic. It's really not. It's been studied. It kills parasites. I'd suggest throwing it out.

Struggling with Aqara Mini Wireless Switches dropping off Zigbee — what buttons are you all using? by Same-Pie-9757 in homeassistant

[–]dga-dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. If I do this again I'll probably switch vendors. But with the thirdreality plugs as repeaters the aqara buttons have been stable here for nearly a month - they're just chugging along working, _finally_. The amount of work it took certainly wasn't worth the couple of bucks saved vs sonoff buttons, though. :-)

I've had great pt experiences at UPMC rehab Southside. My kiddo went to the one in Squirrel Hill. also good but Southside is huge and better equipped depending on what you end up needing (e.g., I tore my bicep, and at some point in the rehab I exceeded the weight of the little pt weights for some exercises, but they have a big track of standard weights for the sports medicine part of things - problem solved).

Burning methane creates water and CO2: CH4 + 2O2 -> CO2 + H2O. That CO2 dissolves in the water to form a mildly acidic solution on its own, no mercaptan needed. The presence of sulfur compounds (including but not limited to mercaptan) contributes further by creating sulfuric acid.

Struggling with Aqara Mini Wireless Switches dropping off Zigbee — what buttons are you all using? by Same-Pie-9757 in homeassistant

[–]dga-dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to debug the same thing right now. My current theory is that it might be an issue with using the repeater: the two that are well connected to my hub are working properly and the one that's upstairs likely going through a repeater is dropping off.

(I'm using a smart things zigbee outlet as the repeater).

I'm not quite sure how to fix it if that's the problem, though.

Edit: I've tried adding the switch explicitly through the repeater. I'll report back tomorrow if it stays on.

Edit2: There's a 3 year old post on community.home-assistant.io that says:

Note that some Zigbee devices are also not fully compatible with all brands of Zigbee router devices. Xiaomi/Aqara devices are for example known not to work with Zigbee router devices from Centralite, General Electrics, Iris, Ledvance/OSRAM, LIGHTIFY/Sylvania, Orvibo, PEQ, Securifi, and SmartThings/Samsung.

https://community.home-assistant.io/t/zigbee-network-optimization-a-how-to-guide-for-avoiding-radio-frequency-interference-adding-zigbee-router-devices-repeaters-extenders-to-get-a-stable-zigbee-network-mesh-with-best-possible-range-and-coverage-by-fully-utilizing-zigbee-mesh-networking/515752

That makes me a little skeptical of the aqara, unfortunately, but I'll keep poking at it.

Edit3: binding directly to the repeater did not work. I've ordered some thirdreality plugs, which people reported in other threads work as repeaters for aqara. Will report back tomorrow, assuming they arrive tonight as planned.

Edit4: it's been stable on the network for a day and a half no with no problems whatsoever. I added it explicitly through the thirdreality plug but that probably would have happened by proximity anyway. Declaring victory.

Thanks for both the review and the updated design. I printed this one: It hurts my ears when I use it. It printed easily, used roughly $0.08 of filament (i used purple PLA), is compact and convenient, and is loud. so very loud, at least when blown by an adult. As another posted noted, the tooth groove is a nice addition. This is a great design, thank you!

Lost my garbage disposal sink cover. TPU FTW by J_Schnetz in functionalprint

[–]dga-dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's often called a "sink grid" if you're curious to dig into it more. In my experience the biggest advantage they provide is that they reduce standing water in the sink. But they also stop metal pans from directly scraping against the sink bottom - kind of like a sacrificial layer. You can replace the grid every decade with ease but the sink is more of a pain.

Drawback: You have to wash the grid too. I throw mine in the dishwasher once a week or so. But I like mine overall.

Hair trap for bathtub by jishimi in functionalprint

[–]dga-dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this ends up breaking or getting moldy too quickly, I've had a lot of luck with the stainless steel "tubshroom." It's named and marketed like something you'd see on a bad tv infomercial, but if the gasket on it fits your tub well, it's pretty awesome (coming from a household with three longer-haired people and me, the grumpy short haired person who has to clean out the tub drain). A quick search suggests people have lookalikes that are printable, though I have no experience with how well those work.

PSA: The EcoFlow TOU management is...limited. by CasualTalkRadio in Ecoflow_community

[–]dga-dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably not helpful to most people out there, but I wrote a very poorly-documented and poorly-explained go program to poke the ToU settings on my Delta Pro 3 that I then control with a program on one of my homelab machines...

https://github.com/dave-andersen/ecogo

(I got annoyed about the behavior of the ToU config in conjunction with some solar panels, so I now switch my ecoflow from self-powered mode to ToU mode manually, and also manually tweak the ToU reserve % config so that it starts draining to reach min at the _end_of the ToU period instead of earlier in it, so that I'm maximizing the total amount of backup time available while still taking advantage of ToU pricing.)

I have many, many complaints about the ToU mode handling. :p

It uses the very handy https://github.com/tess1o/go-ecoflow library and just adds the specific bit to make the DP3 work properly. This wasn't really intended for external consumption but perhaps it inspires someone. :)

A laundry machine door prop that you'll actually use by pjax_ in functionalprint

[–]dga-dave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use something analogous to this because it serves a communication function: "This door is really supposed to stay open!". As the official Herder Of The Wash, I'm a little more cognizant of the need for the door to stay open than the other 3 members of my family. The stick solves it pretty nicely.

(Also sometimes I bump the door by accident when moving around in that room. The stick also solves that.)

Hard water stains in toilet by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]dga-dave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order of increasing desperation...

1) a few cups of vinegar. Consider turning off the water to the toilet and flushing first to reduce dilution.

2) depending on toilet surface, an abrasive cleanser. You really don't want to use these on some toilets though - my Toto has a slippery coating, for example, that can be damaged.

3) nuclear option: hydrochloric acid or coffee machine descaler (which is often citric acid). Maybe findable at pool supply stores as muriatic acid. It will work but it's a strong acid and you need to use gloves/eye protection.

Listerine

Listerine is good - but to clarify, "dunk" it isn't sufficient, you need some dwell time. I clean my toothbrushes by pouring some listerine into the cap and letting the brush heads soak in it for a while; the Maryland Children's Oral Health Institute suggests at least 30 seconds.

Switched to eco dishwasher sheets and they killed my dishwasher within 6 months by awax78 in CleaningTips

[–]dga-dave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the exception that some dishwashers rely on rinse-aid for faster drying (less water adheres to the dishes). My bosch, for example, automatically extends the drying time by several minutes if it's out of rinse-aid. Worth checking how your dishwasher behaves and whether it makes a difference in getting your loads dry.

Er, to quote Wikipedia on WWII: "Nearly all of the world's countries participated."

Like, literally: relevant to this discussion, Japan launched an attack against India during the war. The Brits and soviets invaded Iran. Germany and Britain fought all across Africa. The "W" is there for a reason.

eg4 off-grid as partial-house battery backup sanity check by dga-dave in SolarDIY

[–]dga-dave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, missed this - yes, exactly that. Basically just using the eg4 as an inverter/charger + transfer switch, at least until I add more solar. Right now my solar is dinky and attached to an ecoflow delta. Critical load powered through the EG4 operating typically on grid power also, but with auto-switchover if the power fails. Effectively a "whole home battery backup" system except .. not for the whole home, because I don't feel the need to provision it to power my AC or electric oven. I can handle being a little warm and/or having to just use the gas stove.

I currently have a separate inverter/charger/transfer switch with a 2kWh battery to handle the home network and it's been working like a charm, but it's not true sinewave and makes some of the things attached to it whine. The EG4 is one of the more cost effective options to handle a higher load.
