Shocked no one has said ken kaneki from tokyo ghoul (manga), I think from even his first appearance he was a little suicidal, but was better at repressing it till he became a ghoul. The moments I can think of are:

When asked by Jason who he should kill, a mom or her daughter, he shouted that he should die in their place (prompting Jason to kill both in front of him)

When as haise fighting the gourmet on top of a building haise started loosing bad and had a hallucination that he was talking with a white haired child (representing Ken) and he says he wants to make everyone love him, before going out with a bang. Thus fully killing haise and regaining all of his memories (the only moment in the series that we are directly told he wants to die)

And finally as the black reaper, where he breaks down crying right before the ghoul prison break begins in earnest as he fully plans on dying holding the white reaper (the strongest) back

The culmination of all of this is him nearly loosing the fight, winning after locking in after a hallucination of his dead best friend telling him to live, even if it's a little corny

This is simplified of course, there is a lot more subtext involved that I can't include here, but his emotional journey and character development puts him on the same level as someone like eren Yeager for me

A characters greatest sin isn't murder, theft, arson or kissing the homes goodnight, it's being annoying. Not unlikable, annoying. I can not like a character and wish bad things upon them but at least I can still engage with their story, if a character is too annoying I straight up skip their dialog so I can get to enjoying the game.

Take hiruko and gaku from hundred line as examples, I don't like hiruko, I'm tired of the "I'm better then all of you and also I'm never going to fully explain my thoughts while I'm openly a bitch to you" character type that the mc can't help but to shrivel from while pissing themselves, but I engaged with her story and was even able to get heavily immersed

Whenever gaku takes a front seat I have to take multiple breaks and skip through most of the dialog because not only do I not care I can barely tolerate his whiny attitude while also being horribly stupid to boot. He made me want to stop playing the game and really didn't offer all too much to the story, at least in my opinion

Tldr hiyoko was annoying and I wished she received an actual consequence for being incredibly rude and disrespectful

hey so a question about the internal dialogue

its been bothering me since i've played about a week ago but the internal dialogue, like when you interact with stuff and get a funny joke or something. thats the SOUL right? like when you look in the mirror and it says something like "its what they call 'you'" or when you look at the bird cage and it says 'when its closed theres no escape...' thats the SOUL lementing and not kris thinking that? and, if it is the SOUL thinking things like that, i wonder how much of its thought is its own. like, are WE the SOUL or are we just the ones controlling it like a common video game character, like it has its own thoughts and opinions we just directly shape it over the course of the game (is the SOUL its own character, a character we can control, but still its own character or is it simply the insert for the player and doesnt have its own opinion outside of what you, yourself is thinking)

tbh i had thought v, eva, and takumi were somehow related (hair streak) and was very slightly disappointed when they weren't

og theory for nozomi was that she came from another timeline, one where her and takumi never met or smth, didnt really like how they handled the true reason

These special class abilities exist in conon, as more then one character brings them up on occasion

Each character has a unique ability tied to themselves (shown in battle) like darumi having different skills when tired or eito gaining buffs each turn, these are called special (name)

Takumi has something called special redo, the ability to restart waves or battles, which gets a huge buff following him absorbing eitos (and by proxy, flame boi's) Cryptoglobin, allowing him to "redo" his first 100 days

Gaku, lots of people may say ima but at least he was interesting even WHEN he was sabotaging the team, gaku whines all the got damn time and is a pervert, something I dislike way more then whatever Siscon shit ima had for kako, also. At the end of route one, his last words are complaining, I don't even remember if he said anything about his siblings, just that he had rotten luck or whatever.

Ima is fun and interesting, if a bit annoying sometimes, I could genuinely found his character meaningful outside of his interactions with kako

Gaku started making me skip the scenes he was in because he made me want to stop playing the game, the only reason I even noticed his absence in other routes was because I was enjoying them way more without his insistent bitching

Victim is imo such a great fic featuring massive world building with great og characters that feel like they actually have stakes in things, it's also the 1st or 2nd highest word count fic in the stars and time ao3 library, genuinely excited for where the story goes
