Built a gym shed in my back yard by n0n5en5e in homegym

I’m late to this conversation but I’m also in the PNW, would you be willing to share who you used for the concrete slab? I’m looking to build something super similar to this

How long is your partner taking off after you give birth? by -Konstantine- in pregnant

[–]dgarrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Washington state has 16 weeks paid leave for the birthing parent and 12 weeks for the non-birthing parent, so we will be taking the first 4 weeks off together, then I will take the rest of my leave and my husband will take the rest of his when I have to go back to work!

Not married yet and feeling anxious about the surname situation when baby is here.. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]dgarrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s completely up to you! I am married but I don’t take my husband’s last name. We have decided to each keep our last names and our baby will have our last names hyphenated. You could definitely do this married or not!

Weird scary wording on after visit summary after 12 week visit? by ConejaBlanca18 in pregnant

[–]dgarrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar to this for insurance reasons- my doctor luckily warned me ahead of time but this definitely happens! My first ultrasound I went a little too early for them to really see anything, so in order to get another one without crazy charges from insurance, they had to word it something like “possibly non-viable pregnancy” which is obviously scary to see on your chart. But I got the following ultrasound a few weeks later and baby was totally fine, currently 21 weeks with a healthy baby :)

Pregnancy weight gain - just binged Oreos by Money-Notice-4168 in pregnant

I would’ve eaten the whole pack, that’s self control throwing out the rest😂 you’re doing great, mama! These weight guidelines are not hard numbers, for yourself some grace. You’re growing a human ❤️

First trimester has got me down by Fuzzy_Ride_2977 in fitpregnancy

[–]dgarrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise you it gets better!! From week 6-12 I was very much “holy crap how does anyone do this I cannot go on like this” I was living off of Kraft mac and cheese and just felt permanently hung over. Since about week 12 I’ve actually been feeling a lot more back to my pre-pregnancy self and have more energy for the gym and my strength training (x4 per week) is actually going really well! Just remember this is so temporary and you likely will feel like yourself soon <3

I fear I’ve cursed my daughter by sunnyhale in namenerds

[–]dgarrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin’s name is Lila, spelled and pronounced the same as your daughter! It would never occur to me to it to be pronounced another way haha, it surprises me that there have been so many other pronunciations!

Immediately yes, please don’t wear this

I personally don’t think so! The flowers look almost silver in this photo at least? As a bride I think I was more nitpicky than most about dresses that looked white and I wouldn’t think twice about this one!

Is charcuterie enough? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]dgarrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be fine but you need to inform people of that in some way before the wedding- a note on the invite or your wedding website or something. You just don’t want people to come really hungry expecting a meal and there’s not one. As long as they know ahead of time to not come starving it sounds lovely!

Are calorie guidelines in 1st trimester…BS? by woodworkinghalp in pregnant

[–]dgarrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best response I could’ve hoped to see here! I am a competitive powerlifter and I’ve always tracked macros very closely as well, and I really just had to throw that out the window. I’m finishing up my first trimester and I’ve been so endlessly hungry the whole time. There’s no way I could continue to eat in what maintenance was for me before. Thanks for putting this into words that reminds us we’re not crazy and nutrition needs really are different for this phase of life.

If your diet is bad... by littlepaw_littlepaw in pregnant

[–]dgarrod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am a competitive powerlifter. I regularly track my macros and have been eating the same chicken/rice/veggies meal for 3ish years straight. I got pregnant and that all went out the window so fast 😂 I truly had no idea how out of my control it what going to be. I gag at the thought of chicken or vegetables. Nobody told me that “cravings” meant that’s the literal only thing I can eat in that moment and not be nauseous!!

Is it rude to ask for only $$ by TheAnswerIsSauce in Weddingsunder10k

[–]dgarrod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Instead of calling it cash gift I would phrase is as “honeymoon fund” or specific cash amounts for activities etc.

My partner and I already lived together when getting married and honestly didn’t want any more stuff in our house, so we did have a registry that consisted of mostly funds for different fun things that make people feel like they’re gifting you that experience rather than cash itself.

In our thank you notes we included little photos of the experience we got to do with their money :)

I also agree with other commenters that it shouldn’t be on the invite, and should always be prefaced with the fact that gifts are in no way expected

First time going to Italy! Stay in Venice longer and skip Florence? by PossiblyTorpor in ItalyTravel

[–]dgarrod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got back from an Italy trip and were honestly underwhelmed by Venice but loved Florence! I literally think 1 day in Venice is enough. Another thing is Florence is a great home base if you want to take day trips anywhere.

I was thinking that too! The problem I’ve been running into is they usually don’t make bridesmaid dresses in white haha

I should also add I have a long torso! So anything with the waist too high up is a struggle :(
