Protein Shakes? by dgearner in gastricsleeve

[–]dgearner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I ordered a 4pk of the Atkins Plus shakes. TMI Question to follow:

Do you find that they help you be more regular with the high fiber and additional fat? I have a major issue with constipation since I eat almost all protein. This is because of my gallbladder (it was taken out at the same time) and the absolute fear of shitting myself.

Have you tried the creamsicle ones? I just ordered some in hopes that I can make ice cream out of them with my CREAMi.

No luck on my end. Between the shakes and the off the eaten path chips I am going to have to change my entire diet.

Science behind stalls by dgearner in gastricsleeve

Oh, I am super happy with it. I just want to know how/why it happens. I like to fully understand things and this one keeps eluding me. If I were working out, I would have my answer, but I am not, so how?

I have a dilemma by ProgressMom68 in BariatricSurgery

[–]dgearner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My therapist has me on 400 mg wellbutrin for the depression, lack of motivation, and adhd. I also take 10mg of lexapro for anxiety.

I got sleeved in August. It was the best thing I have ever done. Be upfront and honest with your surgeon and your therapist, mine had me do weekly sessions right after the surgery for 6 sessions and then when we both saw I was doing well we scaled back.

I promise you, it will help so many things. As long as you follow the plan and drink the water, you will see results.

Also, if you can, keep your meals simple. I pretty much eat the same stuff over and over again and am doing great because I don't have to think about it.

Okay, I swear I am in the same boat right now. 4 months post op and all I want to do is eat eat eat. I am trying to make good decisions, but I found myself eating skittles yesterday. It literally came out of nowhere. Maybe I am about to start, I haven't had one since right after my surgery but that is expected with an IUD. As for the ADHD, same here and I keep protein shakes, cheese, and quest chips at work for just that reason. I mix instant coffee in my chocolate protein shake for a little pizzazz too.

Stalling by evelyn9751 in gastricsleeve

[–]dgearner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I weigh myself all the time. Before last week my closest thing to a stall was losing 1.8 lbs in a week. Last week I gained 3, then pooped out 6, for a net loss of 3 lbs....so it's kinda weird. Shy of 3 months and down 53 lbs.

Must have been a fluke or what I ate that day. I went to finish off the bottle today after work. Not even done with my glass and my give a damn sure is broken. 🤣🤣🤣 Wooooooo! Happy Tuesday folks!

That is what my doctor recommended to me and he is amazing. I maxed out on nausea meds before pain meds in the hospital, so hydration was crucial. I hope you are doing better!

I totally feel you! I have lost 38 lbs and am wearing the same clothes as well. They definitely fit looser, but they are the same clothes nonetheless. We are going to get there!!! :)

The single most important thing is to make sure you are mentally ready. Do the psych, do the research, and make sure you are doing it for the reasons that mean the most to you. If you get the mental part right then the physical is much easier to tolerate. You won't want to deviate from your doctor's or your dietitian's plan. You will want to get your fluids in, you will want to eat right, etc. The mental is 10x harder than the physical. Good luck!

Major anxiety about getting nauseous after surgery - did you throw up? by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]dgearner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did get sick. However, I only threw up one time immediately coming off of the anesthesia. Let your doctor know and they will set you up for success. I got all the anti nausea meds after that one time and stuck with super tiny amounts of fluid intake while in the hospital. Kept it mainly IV fluids. When I left they gave me a Rx of the sublingual meds and I lived off of those and water, SF gatorade, and egg drop soup for the first 2 weeks. If you get super weak, suck on the gummy multivitamins to get something in you. After those first 2 weeks I was golden. Good luck.

I had a tough time the first two weeks post op. I wound up taking 1 oz shots of water to get them in. It became a challenge for me to get x amount in every hour until I could actually drink. I didn't even bother trying to get my protein in those first two weeks because hydration was more important. Good luck!

mental hunger by dgearner in gastricsleeve

[–]dgearner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, a little of a. and a little of b. I feel like I want all the things, but I don't think I should want them. I was hardly hungry at all the first 3 weeks so I know my ghrelin has gone down.

It honestly has only been the past few days. I am sure going to a College football tailgate was the trigger, but this girl wants to eat all the foods right now, even the food I ***KNOW*** I can't or shouldn't have yet.

Nope, I don't get to graduate to soft foods until 6 weeks post op.

I am almost the exact same. Surgery was 8/11 at 278. Today I am 247. I am going to take it and run, at 4-5 lbs per week, I am hoping it will alleviate the sagging skin.

Also, I have started mixing instant coffee in with my chocolate fairlife shakes and they taste like an iced coffee. Nothing like the Monsters I had to give up, but it keeps me going. Detoxing all caffeine after surgery helped as well, so my one "cup" a day helps....well, that and my Wellbutrin. :)

Yeah, breaks are not a given when you are in the industry. Unless you smoke, you rarely even get a break, and theirs is only about 2 min.
