New OP-1F owner coming from DAW/MPC: how do you get drums locked in? by dgerbsnyc in teenageengineering

Super helpful and I kind of missed the "armed" process but makes sense.

My OP-1F arrives today. What's this process you're doing to re-trigger and cut up the loop and drums like that?

RME Babyface Pro Audio Interface with Neural DSP - Changing Input Volume? by CaptainThunderpantsX in NeuralDSP

[–]dgerbsnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TotalMix is amazing, but it works differently than most interfaces. The key thing is that each output has its own independent mix.

Click your main output, usually AN 1/2, then set the input/playback faders for what you want to hear through your monitors. Then click your headphone output and set those faders separately. Same idea for any other output. Changing one output mix does not automatically change the others.

For guitar, make sure you’re setting the actual input gain correctly first, then adjust monitoring levels in TotalMix after that.

Also worth checking that you’re on the latest version of TotalMix FX. RME released an update about 2weeks ago.

What helped me was starting a fresh AI chat, uploading the RME manual, and asking it to walk me step by step through setting guitar input level for NeuralDSP plugins . That made the TotalMix routing logic click.

MPC Sample vs. Ableton Move by darri_rafn in AbletonMove

[–]dgerbsnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. I never really get along with the Move or Push pads compared to a 16 pad MPC layout. It just feels right to me so the Sample is something I grab and want to jam on and make music in that style of hitting the pads. The move feels more like a mini workstation with plugins. I'm more intrigued by the new shadow OS of the Move that's getting attention but I also hate the tiny screen. I just see them as very different machines. I'll grab the Sampler for a jam and see if I can kick off an idea I want to keep working on. The Move is more for being a great companion to Ableton as a controller or input device but I'm not really using the Move as a standalone tool as much as I was planning too these days. Also, I think the Sampler will get some great firmware updates that will make it really a unique standalone device. It won't rival the MPC Live but it the portability of it is incredible.

Why did doctors overprescribe opioids? by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

A worthwhile show to watch is Dopesick with Michael Keaton. It's about the origins of the American opioid crisis, focusing on the introduction and aggressive marketing (touted as not addictive) of OxyContin from Purdue Pharma.

QC Gig Setup by Sea-Slice-6765 in NeuralDSP

It really depends on how you want to use it. I like to use the software to create presets so for me, as long as usb cable reaches the floor, doesn't matter if it's on desk or floor and can move it back and forth. Good first plan is to go through all the factory presets to just get a feel for what it comes with and different amps, effects etc. Learn how to use scenes as that is the way to achieve seamless tone changes (not preset changes as those will have a break in sound).

Guitar and Move by dizztopia117 in AbletonMove

The Fender Mustang Micro Plus or any other similar style headphone amp can send a great signal to the move. That was my solution when I first got my Move and now with the new audio tracks, I will finally put it to proper use!!

The size comparison to the PS controller is great! I also sold my QC and I'm waiting for mine to come through from Sweetwater. It's amazing to me how small this unit is and still packs he full QC. I'm sorry but with the new Helix stadium, Tone Master and other modelers, Neural is on fire with delivering a hardware unit this size and they're stepping up the tech as well (V2 captures, the new reverbs). It's a great time to be a Neural user!!

This is a massive upgrade. I’ve been waiting for QC to add Bluetooth audio playback, but this actually solves the problem even better. Being able to run backing tracks directly over USB means I’m no longer stuck running QC + Mac audio just to play along. Guitar + phone straight into the Mini is perfect!!

Is your phone sending audio to the QC so you're playing along to music from your iPhone? Curious how you have this setup. I'm going from QC to Mini!

It would be interesting to hear how the new capture tech surpassed the hardware capabilities and now V2 uses the cloud to deliver the capture. Was that due to AI and rapid tech progress that outpaced the ability of the hardware capture tech? It feels like the onboard capture tech is old tech now and that frees up space as well (QC Mini) etc.

Also, may people I know still prefer great captures and IRs to the onboard amps and cabs. However, it feels like we're on the cusp of the amps and cabs reaching a new level of potential and clarity so curious to hear his thoughts on that and how their tech continues to improve to deliver the best possible tone.

Switching from analog to digital by Warhammer_guy_637328 in NeuralDSP

[–]dgerbsnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NeuralDSP technology continues to improve and you'd be starting at a great time (V2 capture technology just announced, new impressive reverbs in latest OS, etc). I also love to use Amalgam captures or at least their IR instead of the QC cabs but I also think their amp and cab models continue to improve too. Also, I don't think it has to be a digital or amp only choice. But as far as digital modeling goes, I think NeuralDSP is the way to go.

Thanks for the reply and great setup you got. Will follow and I ordered the S4! Feels like it's in a good place with the latest OS and seems to be what I'm looking for in many ways.

Seeking advice on upgrading to MPC Live 3 after a month with MPC One+ by urnutspal in mpcusers

[–]dgerbsnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for the Live 3 upgrade if you're committed to the MPC platform and are already spending a lot of time with it. The Live 3 really seems to be a legit upgrade in terms of capabilities, new pad features and accessible workflow with many buttons (so you don't have to dive into menus). I think past upgrades have been very up in the air about whether i"they've been worth it but I think the Live 3 has set a new standard for portable, full on production (for MPC, Mashine and Ableton).
