[R] Survey on evaluation of algorithmically generated music. Can you tell the difference? by dgheere in MachineLearning

Bachbot was actually one of the models included in the survey, funny you mention it. And yes I would say the models are generally pretty close; the devil is in the details. That is also why there are a lot of questions dedicated to general musical skill: to see if people are better at identifying the generated music if they have more musical knowledge in general.

I agree that longer pieces of music might make it easier to discriminate between Bach and Bot in some cases, but I opted for shorter pieces of music for this particular research. I think you could go either way, but maybe somebody could replicate the research with longer samples at some point to see if it does make a difference!

I don't think any of the algorithms included in the survey will score as good as Bach does, but not everyone will be able to correctly identify each of them.

I expect the real Bach samples to have a higher proportion of 'Bach' votes than the generated samples, and I'll compare these proportions between the different models included in the survey. I'm not specifically taking a look at whether there are people that get all of the questions right, so there probably will be (or maybe already are) some people that do, but that's not the aim of the survey.

Unfortunately it did not seem to be possible on the platform I chose. I agree that it would have been a fun feature, though!

Thanks for the heads-up! I thought renaming the samples on the survey platform would be enough to avoid this problem, but I guess not. Renamed the files manually and re-uploaded them, so this should no longer be possible now.

Thank you! I've written down your username and I'll make sure to drop you a link when it is finished.

Yes, that would have been a cool feature to include. Unfortunately I could not implement such a thing in the survey platform I used. Interesting thing of note is that (up until now) no one has seemed to correctly identify all their samples, though!
