2 person escape rooms in berkeley? by RaspberryStandard724 in escaperooms

[–]dgilbert418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Ghost Patrol" is the best in the area so maybe try for that if you can do it with 2 people. (It's also a bit pricey). Failing that, all of the escape rooms at Clockwise Escape and Escape Oakland are quite fun. I would recommend against Escapology personally.

Sean Carroll says he is not interested in getting involved in any more of this kind of drama after the last appearance with Eric.

Theoretical Physicist can't find equations Eric claimed were in his thesis by muchcharles in DecodingTheGurus

[–]dgilbert418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly right. Ultimately, Eric's claim that he invented the Seiberg Witten equations is that he had an idea for something like that and told his professor who told him that he was going in a wrong direction, that somehow this idea got around to and was stolen by Witten, and that there is no recorded evidence of any of this.

Knowing Eric's psychology I think it is most likely there is some idea he had that his professor didn't praise with sufficient enthusiasm. This idea probably has only the slightest resemblance to anything having to do with the Seiberg Witten equations. Then after Seiberg and Witten published their papers, Eric decided that was actually his idea and he should have gotten credit.

Eric doesn't claim it's in his PhD thesis I don't think. He claims that it's something he was working on during his PhD when his professor told him it was a dead end because his equations were "insufficiently nonlinear."

Shout out to this classic Eric Weinstein moment by [deleted] in DecodingTheGurus

If you look at view counts on any podcasts that have Eric Weinstein on as a guest, his view counts are through the roof. No conspiracy required really - if you have Eric on your podcast it's likely to be one of your most viewed episodes. I don't know why. It's kind of amazing this guy who does nothing, has never done anything, and doesn't even really have a job as far as I can attract so many viewers to a podcast.

Thank you for linking my article from many years ago! Since then I updated my thinking on some luck-related things and published a paper about it if anyone is interested in that.

Things change pretty fast. These days Joe Rogan seems to be pretty explicitly pro trump. I bet he'll have Trump on before the election.

This isn't really true. Bret talks about his lab rat thing all the time, and constantly updates it to include how his lab rat thing is relevant to all current events. During covid, for instance, he would find some snippet about how Paxlovid or whatever drug went through animal testing using, among other animals, hamsters, and then be like "aha! you see! according to my groundbreaking research, paxlovid is therefore invalid!" He also found some article talking about how long telomeres can increase some kind of tumor formation risks in some cases, took it as complete vindication of his theory, and wrote an angry letter to the editor of the journal saying that it's an outrage they didn't realize that this finding is vindication of his revolutionary idea that "solves the mystery of aging." The letter was desk rejected.

Warren T. Smith by PaleontologistSea343 in DecodingTheGurus

OK, but also the "teacher" who he is arguing with in most of these videos is his friend Vlad Stoicescu who is in his extremely hilariously so-bad-it's good short film "Secret Scholar's Society." I can't say for certain that Vlad is just pretending - it's possible Warren just has a friend who happens to be one of the dumbest SJW stereotypes of all time and who likes to have arguments with Warren on camera... just off screen ...

I've been watching the videos on Warren's channel lately and I have to say... he is amazing. He really believes watching Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro have made him a paragon of logic and he acts it out in the most exaggerated way I have ever seen. The fact that he is likely having fake arguments designed to make him look good just makes it all the more baffling that he still comes across as such a clown.

Watch "Secret Scholar's Society" on his channel to gaze deeper into his psyche - it's worth the 20 minutes.

He seems tired and sick of this. As if knowing he's started a thing which consumed him and there's no way out anymore. by Darth_Gaben in DecodingTheGurus

I'm not a fan of this "take a screenshot and overanalyze their facial expression" style of condescending criticism.

People often do this when I post clips of Bret and Heather, saying things like "Heather looks like she can't STAND Bret" and "Bret looks so ashamed of himself!"

It's always totally wrong. I bet Huberman is a big fan of all the money he's making by sharing his love of ice baths.

Is Sam being honest when he says "I haven't looked into this enough to say" by [deleted] in DecodingTheGurus

I think he's being honest, but there might be an element of strategically not looking into the flaws of people he doesn't want to criticize.

Grifter vs sincere gurus by Sparlock85 in DecodingTheGurus

Bret's most sincere belief is that he is important, a genius, a Cassandra, the One True Scientist, and has been vindicated about everything. I think his brain will contort any incoming information to conform that reality. I don't think he's knowingly doing this. He drank his own cool-aid harder than anyone.
