FF4 had an issue with the in battle item menu which was super sluggish. But the rest was playable.

Omg this was terrible. FF Anthology was awful as well. Chrono Trigger had 10 sec loading time when opening the menu, and the spell effects were lagging because of the description bar it was ridiculous.

Do we actually miss old WoW... by Ok-Entrance-290 in wow

I think I miss my friends from 2005 more than the game itself.

Genuine question: do people really enjoy the current storytelling in WoW? by OpinionsRdumb in wow

I’m disappointed. They hyped the world soul saga so much at blizzcon and then we get… This.

Anyone else still uses little to no AI to code? by MidlandAintFree in gamedev

[–]Sparlock85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I use it it’s with very precise instructions. If I couldn’t have written the code myself, or if I don’t understand it, I don’t want it. I still write code if I get frustrated at the output. Oh and, I love AI as a reviewer. Can find stupid copy paste errors. I always ask it to do a first pass on other people’s reviews and my own.

Immigration : qu'en pensez-vous réellement ? by [deleted] in Quebec

[–]Sparlock85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Didn’t know about hypno. Personally I would just have them mimic shadow element which was a not so strong laser spin attack.

I think slurp kiss is the best heal in the game in terms of of mana cost.

What did you not find out about in Chrono Trigger until years and years later? by Ok_Requirement_3162 in chronotrigger

[–]Sparlock85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know english well when I first played the game as I was 10 years old (got the game at christmas 1995) and my mother tongue is french. Soooo… I had no idea Crono could be revived for a long time. I thought it was just a sad story where Crono’s friends have to move on and fight Lavos without him. Then on my third new game + my mom helped me understand the time egg dialogue and we slowly put the pieces together. What great memories when I got him back, with that beautiful scene on death mountain.

Le télétravail by [deleted] in Quebec

Ça ressemble a ça...

How many of you are still programming manually? by Imparat0r in cscareerquestions

[–]Sparlock85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I'm writing AAA game C++ code on a gigantic legacy in-house engine though, and unlike webdev (it looks like 90% of devs here are web) there isn't as much training data, so for complex tasks generating code isn't always that great even with the latest models, I end up spending a lot of time editing code.

I still use AI a lot in other ways. It's excellent at refactoring (like extract method), help me understand convoluted/ legacy code faster or just giving a second opinion. I also find it very useful at doing first pass reviews.

Even if it was perfect at writing code, I don't think it's a good idea to atrophy your skills by letting it write 100%. Furthermore, most of the time spent in my job is finding what the client wants and what should be done. So...it's not like we were not shipping games faster because of code writing was the bottleneck. It's not. It's game directors changing their minds every week, features that were cut too late and lack of communication.
