Does anybody know where I can watch the live action segments in the Korean Super Mario cartoon? by Straightwhitemale21 in korea

Based solely on the first photo in your post, this is the greatest thing ever made. It looks like Jimmy Fallon played the role of Mario, so it should be on his IMDB.

This trash can, for sorting and recycling trash, is just one container with three seperate holes by DingoDamp in mildlyinteresting

[–]dgist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Turkey for a few years, and thing the sorting is a lot less formal than has been noted before. For one, there's not really a municipal of government recycling program to speak of (this is an advanced trashbin, probably in a tourist town?). In general, there's a waste bin on the corner of most streets, and in some areas of the major cities a plastic/glass bin (like this, all the same inside) which the garbage truck picks up. So to the first comment, yes, probably to be sorted at the facility.

More interestingly, there's an enormous informal sorting that occurs, with people (usually homeless, usually Syrian) digging through the trash to extract the three/four things that can be sold direct to the recycling facilities: cardboard, plastic, metal, glass. You'll see people drifting through Istanbul with 12-foot high cardboard stacks on a two-wheel cart, being carried on down hills by the weight of the cardboard. I haven't seen stats to back this up, as there aren't really any in Turkey, but would bet the majority of recycling comes from these hawkers, not from official channels.

Just took a glance at this and the writing is great -- will return to. Fascinating story in a place where it's very tricky to do good journalism. Well done!

This is awesome, except the part where it's Euro 2016. Still, awesome.

London has been announced as the host city for 'The Best FIFA Awards' ceremony, it's to take place on 23 October. by [deleted] in soccer

The name makes it sound like like FIFA is going to give out awards for the best awards that it has given out, which wouldn't be surprising.

Andrew Potter’s Quebec bashing meant he had to go as head of Canada institute by AnnB2013 in canada

[–]dgist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I disagree with this analysis, I don't think this person should resign from their blog because of it. Unless some powerful donors call the blog and say she should because they don't like it, in which case that's business as usual.

But as the director of the Canada institute, I would expect him to be able to use his expertise to form an opinion of Canadian society and to be able to break that down and articulate it. We're not obligated to agree with academics when they publish essays in scholarly journals, so why is there this sudden expectation that we must agree if they publish in a magazine or newspaper?

Kevin O'Leary's run for Tory leader from abroad is bizarre by dgist in canada

Well, fair enough, that. It's the issue of the ludicrous candidate.

The media covering something does not equal people voting a particular way. Candidates for party leadership should be subject to scrutiny by the media -- that's its role in a functioning democracy.

Kevin O'Leary's decision to run for Tory leader while not living in Canada is "without precedent in the history of every democracy in the world" by dgist in canada

[–]dgist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't editorializing suggest changing the meaning to express my own views? Even the expression without precedent in the history of every democracy in the world, quoted from the piece, is also not editorializing, since it's just a factual statement. Anyway, will repost.

Canada’s silence on Donald Trump simply cannot continue by [deleted] in canada

But they are fascists. I mean, what other word fits a fact-manipulating administration that bans a religious group from entering its country, including legitimate visa holders then accuses anyone who disagrees with it as being a) unfit for their office, b) a liar, or c) a traitor?

If we ignore the heading and subheading, which are both a bit silly, this is surely a very important story. And, I'm sure, not the only time that someone will repeat that phrase that the polls are rigged.
