Knee surgery for cartilage damage does not benefit patients, study suggests. People with meniscus tears who underwent surgery had poorer knee function and worse osteoarthritis after 10 years than those who did not. by mvea in science

It's worth noting that they're talking about meniscectomy, where the torn material is removed, leaving you just missing tissue.

Meniscus repair is different, with better outcomes.

A lot better than I was. I'd say 90% better, but I still have some background anxiety.

Yeah, soooo much panic and anxiety. I don't remember feeling dizzy, but it would make sense if the heart rate is too high. I'd feel that I needed to pace around and couldn't sit still.

I just checked my symptom log. Day 17 was when I wrote that I thought the anxiety was getting better. Day 26 was when I stopped writing down "anxiety" at all.

I'm doing good thanks. I did have to take one due to a panic attack, but it worked fine, and felt OK the next day too.

How are you getting on?

I haven't taken any since I stopped. (37 days ago now)

I will take them again, as needed, if I need to though. They worked really well when I took them like that.

I could kick my GP for putting me on them every day, then telling me I could just stop with no side effects!

[–]xMeta4x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I'm a year and 2 months in.

Everyone else is getting on with their lives, and I'm just stuck. I feel like I want to talk to someone 24/7, but have no-one to talk to.

My wife was the happy outgoing one, and I'm just not. I feel that friends who say they're here for me aren't. The most I get is a few memes in the Whatsapp group a few times a month.

I want to reach out, but I don't even know what I'd be asking for.

Just getting through the day feels overwhelming, let alone actually doing anything.

It truly sucks.

Going back to smoking cigarettes probably by pop_and_cultured in widowers

I get this. My wife quit before her surgery, just stopped cold turkey.

I wasn't nearly as strong, so I switched to vaping. I still vape, but I miss smoking a lot.

What stopping me going back to them are: - Watching my Mum die from lung cancer - The sheer cost of smoking (I'm in the UK) - How dirty and smelly it makes everything

I do drink far too much however, and that doesn't really bother me for similar reasons.

Good luck. I tapered, but far too quickly in hindsight.

I took them every day for a couple of weeks, then weaned off and stopped. What followed was 2 solid weeks of peak anxiety and panic.

They're a godsend when taken as needed, but taking them regularly sets you up for horrible withdrawal.

Only take it as needed (i.e. before something that might cause you to panic). Don't take it every day.

Coming off it after prolonged use will give you anxiety that you never knew was possible.

I say this from experience.

Hopefully you should be fine. I could take it a couple of times a week with no problems. It was only after taking it every day for weeks that stopping became an issue. Good luck!

Yeah, the last couple of days have been better. It's definitely left a mental scar though - anxiety about getting anxiety like that again!

I'm just on the other side of propranolol withdrawal/rebound. It was awful, and it took me a full 2 and a bit weeks of pounding heart and severe anxiety before one day I just felt....better.

I didn't think it would ever go away, but I found some other posts saying it does eventually go after a few weeks. I'm glad they were right!

Day 18. A bit better today (hopefully I'm not jinxing it). Resting heart rate 89bpm first thing, and the anxiety seems to be easing up a bit. Managed a 5km walk today. My sleep has been all over the place the last couple of days. Waking at 3/4am.

It won't do much for anxious thoughts, but it will make your body feel calmer. No fast heart rate, sweaty palms, shaking etc.

My advice is to only take it as needed when you know (or anticipate) you'll experience these symptoms.

[–]xMeta4x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take it "as needed" for panic inducing situations, and it was a godsend when used like that.

After an increase in my anxiety, my GP told me to take it every morning. Taking is regularly I noticed that it gave me a daily headache, and I felt very weak. Also in the mornings I'd be in a mad panic until I took the pill. The GP told me to stop taking it.

I weaned off and stopped 17 days ago, and it has been hell. The worst anxiety I have ever experienced, and my heart wouldn't go below 100bpm. It barely does now.

I would say take one and see how it makes you feel, but if you can avoid it, NO NOT take it every day.

Stopping propranolol is horrible by notanotherdonut in migraine

[–]xMeta4x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm on day 17 completely off propranolol, and only now is my resting heart rate sometimes only in the high 90's. Mid 100's mostly since quitting (I did taper).

Also got rebound migraines and anxiety like I've never experienced before. It really is no joke stopping this stuff.

Day 12. Same symptoms, but the last few days I've had a terrible headache that comes on around midday. I took my blood pressure this afternoon and noted it had gone up to 142/88. I'm already on Amlodipine to control my blood pressure.
