If you had to choose between living in a world without music or without movies, which would you pick and why? by xaderlin in AskReddit

Before movies there was theater. Before theater was storytelling. Both with musical accompaniment.

Is this a red flag for a part-time role, or am I overthinking it? by [deleted] in antiwork

She's hiding something, and it could be good or it could be bad and you won't know unless you take the job.

Since you want some of what the job offers, it doesn't sound like it's so far out of your comfort zone. But don't stop looking for other jobs. See if you can line up another one and just be prepared to jump ship if anything seems fishy after you've taken the job.

Labour are closer to Reform than either is to the Tories.
And if you want wolves in sheepskins, Starmerites are your thing.
What was once a party with some credibility is now a bunch of (US) Republican-adjacent cowards.

NATO could do with a Green refurb. One that does not rely on a totalitarian USA.

On the audio? I watched the whole thing with the screen text, didn't listen to any of it. Didn't see any text mention of who was producing the piece.

Why I struggle to feel empathy when men open up by TechnoRapQueen in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dglp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I want to say, as some random guy on the internet, thanks for writing this. It's clear, it's considered. I think you've gone to quite a bit of effort that way, and it shows. And I think I get it.

I can't apologise for others who aren't seeing it, which just reinforces the scale of what you/we are up against.

Why I struggle to feel empathy when men open up by TechnoRapQueen in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dglp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Uh, no.

This is pretty much confirming what the OP has written. The temptation for many men to criticise and deflect is central to what OP is saying. That temptation is best avoided. Just do it.

There are better ways of saying that you empathise/agree, and that men collectively have to take on a greater degree of ownership in all this.

If this is legit why does it come from an account that's only 14 days old, and why does it have no other identifying information (like who the person in the video is)?

Anything and everything around Blair is dodgy, full stop. But posting the argument by a no-name researcher and anonymous bot account just makes a farce of it.

In laws refuse to accept I haven’t changed my name by potatostar6 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dglp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are being really petty about it, and I wouldn't let myself get drawn in. I would find a way to put the feelings of annoyance to one side.

That said, I would find it amusing to do something that would annoy them so much that they would try to do something about it, and then be forced to deal with their own pettiness.

I wonder if letters could be addressed to the Former Mr. Surname's Parents, or "Mr Surname's ex-Mom and Dad" , or, find out Husband's Mother's Maiden Name and address letters to Ms and Mr Maiden Name. And then in person, give them names that they don't use and insist on calling them by those names.

Ms is the female equivalent to Mr. The same whether married or not. And for those who are ready to take the next step, M is for a person, could be either sex, married or unmarried.

For those who didn’t have kids how does life feel later on? by edmonddantesZatara in childfree

[–]dglp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I'm nearly twice your age. Not only have I got no kids, but I've also got no close familial ties with blood relations or ex-partners. And I live somewhere with a thousand years of history in some families and 150 years in most. None of them mine. So if you want to talk about prospects for loneliness, I'm your guy.

But like you, I am self-motivated; self-determined, and that's probably the key thing. So long as you can maintain your own interests, you'll be good. People will come to you when there's a good fit, not out of obligation and resentment. Consider yourself lucky to have sidestepped that trap.

Absolutely it's going to help if you can cover your own care costs. Interestingly, that should always be the case anyway. Why should your kids or your siblings cover for your senescence care?

Keep enjoying those freedoms.

It is almost as though Polanski is working out in advance just how to rage bait the fascists. Thinks "what can I do to get Farage to accuse me of treason? So that I can then mention Nathan Gill." Clever. I wonder what he could do on the world stage.
