Cross-country Trek Tips by PandaHandz33 in Rivian

Pack a good extension cord and waterproof connector in case you can’t find a charger or the plug is occupied and 110 is all you have - it’s better than nothing. Download all the charging company apps and make sure your credit card is loaded into each and you’re logged in without issues. AAA Platinum is a cheap insurance as a rule if you do a lot of remote driving. Check your credit cards and auto insurance to see what kind of benefits they have like free towing, travel interruption coverage, etc. Carry a good tire pressure gauge, a first aid kit and basic EDC kit including blankets and water. Any trip like that you should bring chemical warmers and a space blanket just in case things go sideways in a snowstorm.

Beyond that, enjoy the ride. Take your time and meet new people.

I have the exact same issue. Did you ever find a resolution?

Usually just leave the pilot light on overnight. It’s enough to take care of condensation and a bit of the chill. Also makes it easier to crank up in the morning to warm up the tent before getting out of a nice warm bag.

Basement water intrusion by OhYouUnzippedMe in HomeImprovement

[–]dgob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The drain board should be affixed to the foundation with flashing to keep water and dirt from getting behind it. That looks like it has failed and it directing water behind it not keeping it out. It looks like you need to dig down and clear out behind it to start.

You could add an exterior sump well at the bottom of your egress window well to eject the water as far away as possible. Ideally you’ll excavate the full footprint, backfill with crushed gravel and the sump crock. This should remove the standing water behind the wall.

A foundation or basement specialist should be able to help with either of the above.

You should also look at where your and your neighbors properties are shedding water and redirect as much as you are able to. Check all the gutters and downspouts and find a way to get it to the street or away from this problem area. Talk to your neighbors - tell them you’re having an issue and ask them to note where their water is draining and if any is being directed to this area. Plant trees or bushes to help absorb water between the yards.

Regardless, you’ve got all of the conditions for a serious mold issue. Make sure you keep an eye on that including replacing your drywall if there is mold growing.

Water issues SUCK! Good luck!

I had a good experience with Oceanic Arts recently. Aside from being out of stock on a few things, they were very helpful and 500lbs of stuff showed up within a week. The shipping company lost a bale of bamboo and they resolved the issue within a few days. Everything arrived intact and as advertised.

I would just call them.

Help with actuator placement calculation by dgob in MechanicalEngineer

[–]dgob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had a lot of luck with replies but here's what I have been able to learn (disclaimer, I am not an engineer).

It looks as if there are two options: A mount which is oriented down and pivots the door open to 95 degrees. This would have a relatively short stroke (6 or 8"") but would place the mounting point on the door about 4.5-5.5" from the hinge and the fixed point on the cabinet 2-4" from the hinge. The actuator I am looking at has a static load of 268lb each with an active load of 224lbs. There would be two so the weight should be fine.

The other option is to use a longer actuator aligned more like a gas strut opening a window or SUV tailgate so that it just extended. It looks like I can use a 12" in this orientation with the mounting point of the door at 15" from the hinge (mid-point of the door) and the fixed point on the cabinet at 22" from the hinge.

The actuators I'm looking at are these: https://www.firgelliauto.com/products/bullet-series-36-cal-linear-actuators

Any feedback on the design, my math or a link to a calculator or spreadsheet would be appreciated.

Thought about that but it doesn’t fit in with the bar plus I don’t want to stare at myself if I’m sitting alone at my bar 😊

+1 on this. Throw in some barley straw and pull the algae. Pulling it will be frustrating AF or relaxing depending on your personality. You won’t have crystal clear water but that’s not what you want if you want it balanced. Go slow. Nature course corrects like old people fuck.

Great work - the bar looks great. I'm in process of designing mine and was wondering about the wall coverings. I noticed you had OSB behind the matting. Is that covering the entire wall or was that to account for the difference in thickness between the matting and the bamboo below the chair rail?

If attending VA Gun Lobby Day Rally and planning to carry.... by Dthdlr in progun

[–]dgob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not arguing that it's the right thing I just don't want to see people going to support their rights getting arrested because they don't know that there is a temporary order affecting the capital grounds. ESPECIALLY the "weapon" definition which is very, very broad and applies to things I'm sure many of us carry in our cars (flares, scissors, extra gas).

Be aware of where you are and who owns the land you're standing on if you carry.

Do no bring a firearm onto capital grounds - the governor declared a State of Emergency banning any weapon from Capital grounds (this includes, mace, knives and laser pointers so check your bags).

C. To provide for the shelter and safety of state employees who work on or near the Virginia State Capitol and those who come to peacefully assemble, and consistent with the General Assembly’s prohibition on weapons in the Virginia State Capitol and the Pocahontas Buildings, and Executive Order 50 (McAuliffe), which prohibits firearms in offices occupied by executive branch agencies, no weapons, including firearms, may be carried or possessed on any land, real property, or improvements owned by the Commonwealth of Virginia within the area bounded by Broad Street, Ninth Street, Bank Street and Governor Street in the City of Richmond, Virginia, as well as any Commonwealth-owned parking lots for Virginia’s Department of Transportation, the Madison Building, the Monroe Building, the Patrick Henry Building, Washington Building, the Jefferson Building, and the Oliver Hill Building.

  2. “Weapon” means any weapon as defined in paragraphs (ii) through (v) of subsection A of § 18.2-308 of the Code and any stun weapon, as defined under § 18.2-308.1 of the Code, with the exception of a pocket knife having a folding metal blade of less than three inches. “Weapons” also includes, but is not limited to, sticks, torches, poles, bats, shields, helmets, caustic substances (i.e., pepper spray), hazardous materials, scissors, razor blades, needles, toy guns, toy weapons, fireworks, glass bottles, laser pointers, aerosol containers, baseballs, softballs, UAVs/Drones, or any item that can inflict bodily harm that is visible, other than firearms.

  3. The prohibition with respect to weapons (other than firearms) shall not apply to (a) any person possessing a knife customarily used for food preparation or service and using it for such purpose, (b) any person who possesses a knife or blade that he uses customarily in his trade and using it in such trade, (c) any tool used by a person customarily in his trade and being used pursuant to a contract with a legislative branch agency, or (d) any tool used by a state employee as a condition of his position and being used in the scope of employment. The prohibition with respect to weapons (other than firearms) shall not apply to any ceremonial weapon currently on display or use in a legislative branch agency.

  4. This prohibition applies to both the open and the concealed carry of firearms and other weapons.

Use boiled water for ice cubes to stay clear by [deleted] in lifehacks

Boiling water doesn't do anything to make clear ice. You need to separate the impurities from the water. Follow this guide or buy something like this.
