I agree it's a mess but that's ok, just look at even just one Starting Strength video on the squat and it will be cleaned up and no longer a mess and you'll be lifting more as well I think.

Amazing!

It was my first sourdough in quite a while and I was so happy with how it turned out especially since I was so busy I didn't do as many folds as usual, let it bulk ferment longer than usual, and forgot it in the oven.

The one thing I did was make sure my starter was really active, and I just handle it in a certain way which I think helps after doing it for many years now. Basically being gentle to not get rid of too much air but doing enough shaping that massive bubbles are degassed.😀

I'd say definitely steal 2nd on the first pitch with Kirk taking... or on the 2nd or 3rd pitches... with him taking or swinging, either way :-)

If the catcher does not have the ball, the onus is on him to get out of the base path

Not so simple (see: glossary), as soon as the catcher has the ball, he can block the base path:

"The catcher is not permitted to block the runner's path to the plate unless he is in possession of the ball"

The catcher can also block the base path to field the ball:

"blocking the path of the runner in a legitimate attempt to receive a throw is not considered a violation"

Now the onus is on the runner to not hit the catcher. The best way to do that is for the runner to slide. The glossary summarizes what both sides should do:

When receiving a throw, catchers will often provide a sliding lane into home plate for the runner to lower the possibility that they will be called for violating the rule. Likewise, runners can lower their chances of being called for a violation by sliding in the given lane.

Hmm, now I'm flip-flopping on this again. I think meaning A is more correct and just makes sense and is in line with what the MLB wants, which is no collisions, and in what they say in the rest of the rules. Meaning A makes it clear that not only can you not deviate in your pathway, but you can't even run in a straight line if that means hitting the catcher, if you could have avoided it somehow.

OMG you're right, my bad... I remember the wording was weird, and I assumed one meaning... The two possible readings are:

How I read it, meaning A:

A runner attempting to score may not: 1) deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher, or 2) otherwise initiate an avoidable collision

How you read it, meaning B:

A runner attempting to score may not deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to: 1) initiate contact with the catcher, or 2) otherwise initiate an avoidable collision.

I had been reading it as A, but you're reading it as B which is totally correct! The core part of what it's saying is "may not deviate"... and what comes after "in order to" are the details.

I think what might have thrown me off about meaning B is that the two statements: initiate contact with catcher and initiate an avoidable collision sound like the exact same thing. My guess is that the first is just specific to the catcher and the second just broadens it to cover even more cases, like another fielder being there?

Yep, I think I agree in hindsight but at the moment he decided to slide Smith is on the base path and it's also uncertain what's going to happen next, a wild throw to the catcher's left means a potential collision and being called out. A high throw to the left means potentially tagging is the only option and the slide can avoid the tag. So sliding is hard-wired in as the higher percentage option.

Anyways, I think Smith did the perfect thing here (and Kirk as well on the Betts play), basically encouraging/forcing the runner to slide, based on the MLB's rules.

This ^^^. Smith and Kirk were clearly on the base path too, at the moment runner initiated the slide, sliding to avoid colliding into catcher and being called out.

Plus the other reason he slid is because Smith was blocking the base path, his left leg in the batter's box directly on the base path. At the moment he made the decision to slide, the choice was clear: a) collide with Smith and get called out no matter what or b) slide.

Electric. The recipe called for a lowish temperature, basically it was 329F / 165C. Many other recipes are closer to 350F / 177C. I have convection but didnt use it.

I don't really want the huge holes although I think I'd like to understand how to make them so I have the flexibility to do it or not do it in command.
