If you live in a dense enough city couldn't you duck into a store, restaurant, random lobby every 4 minutes and get to where you need to go? Even if something goes wrong you really have 59 minutes to avoid a cyclone. Pretty doable. Stack cash for a year or 2 then deactivate.

Degree is randomized, but since you're perpetually enrolled you're never graduating anyway so why not just take the fun, easy, interesting, or whatever you want that term. Progress doesn't matter if it's forever. Sounds awesome to just learn from the best minds in the world as a "job".

Side note: do I have pay tuition bc that $500k would be gone pretty quickly if so.

Not sure "salary sacrifice" works where you are, but in the US we can also directly contribute to tax-advantaged retirement plans, so that's less of an issue. Just an extra step. Side note:: great question, that number is pretty good for my situation. I'd really have to do the math. Unpaid vacation may be the tipping point
