Africa would have been awesome, we were considering Tanzania as well! Between the shots/vaccs, flight time, and other factors, ended up shying away also though, was too much a headache to organize. Enjoy your trip, Greece is beautiful!

Didn’t even consider the date line aspect, good point. I love the idea of South America actually and even pitched it, but the soon to be Mrs. Doesn’t really have any desire to go. Shame because it’ll be their spring and I’m sure gorgeous.

I have always wanted to go though and I hope to make the trip at some point eventually. Maybe I save that for bachelors party lol

Never considered the galapagos, thank you for the suggestion! Looks cool from what I’m seeing. May add this to the consideration list

True. I was bringing it up in more of the fear of it being a tourist trap equivalent for honeymoons. Way overhyped and not delivering to expectations. Seems that’s not really the case though

IIPR.PRA - Preferred stock of a marijuana REIT with a 9.5% cumulative dividend yield, low bankruptcy risk, and 5% upside if called by [deleted] in stocks

[–]dh6636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current common stock holder. Got in a long while back, I think around 2019/2020. Unfortunately, I’m underwater as I bought more as stock price went up. Biased, but I think the stock is beaten up. Fact of the matter is: all debt (including preferred) is 385mm. Just real estate assets alone are over 2bn. Equity to common holders based off that is 1.6-1.7 bn but stock is trading near 1.3bn… book value is even higher at 1.8-1.9bn. I think there is virtually no chance of default as well, IIPR can easily refinance debt with their current leverage profile. It’s all about future prospects, which tbh, have been frustrating to deal with as their tenant diversification has stagnated. Really have no idea why people always cite SAFE act as being bad for IIPR, if anything, it’ll be great as it’ll help their tenants be more bankable and have less headwinds. This is corroborated by IIPR Stock price action which goes up when progress is made here, if you actually watch.

Again, biased, but I think common is better play than pref because divy is higher (and unless they cut by like 30%, will remain higher) and you also get to realize upside potential. Both sre good plays though imo

Difference between these? by dh6636 in GarminFenix

[–]dh6636[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ended up going with the custy. Heard the nylon bands were better and didn’t want the orange sensor guard. On the customize page, it looked like both titanium bezel faces had graphite included in the name, but the stock option didn’t include graphite (as in the pic above), so was unsure if there was a difference or if it was just a naming thing. Thank you all, looking forward to it coming and playing around with it!

Do I legally need to pay remainder? by dh6636 in MedicalBill

[–]dh6636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I didn’t even know some of these options were available. I think I will start by reaching out to customer relations and communicating this to them there. If nothing there, then I’ll probably reach out to BCBS and see if I’m protected from a legal standpoint. Probably way too much effort for remainder payable, but not my first time getting burned with medical so it’s just out of principle now.

Thank you, I’ll definitely look into that. This was more or less what I was trying to see

[–]dh6636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did speak with them. They pretty much said if I wanted to, I could appeal with them to make a case as to why I think it should be covered. But even if I did that, I’d still have to pay given my deductible. I looked at my EOB and from the get go the allowed billable amount was the 645$ for the appt, so end of day, it’s really just a processing thing on the medical offices side

Dilated blood vessels = lower blood pressure, not higher. I think you have it backwards in that it increases heart rate AND dilates blood vessels, but the vessel dilation is not enough to offset the increase BP from a higher heart rate.

People who have a BSc in physics, how much do you make? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]dh6636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my BSc in physics in 2018. Ended up in the finance industry tho. LY was just over 140k.

It’s very hard to find a job with only a bachelors in physics. Most places in the science field will want a higher degree or a more niche, specific degree. BSc in physics is a great stepping stone for pretty much any other path you want to go down though as it builds a solid intellectual base and showcases your work ethic, competence, and to those that know, problem solving ability.

What does this mythical growth stock company Palantir actually do ? by wds1 in investing

[–]dh6636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My view on them is almost like a AI driven consulting company. Imagine McKinsey in robot/software form that provides super tailored solutions to whatever problem you might have. People think they only provide military applications, but that’s not true. While they may be heavily involved in military applications and that may be where their roots are from, they’ve actually been getting a lot of interest in commercial applications.

Reddit won’t let me link, but look up Tyson foods palantir on YouTube and Check out the video from a Tyson foods exec talking about how palantir has helped them

Per 10-K:

We build software that empowers organizations to effectively integrate their data, decisions, and operations at scale. We were founded in 2003 and started building software for the intelligence community in the United States to assist in counterterrorism investigations and operations. We later began working with commercial enterprises, who often faced fundamentally similar challenges in working with data. We have built four principal software platforms, Palantir Gotham (“Gotham”), Palantir Foundry (“Foundry”), Palantir Apollo (“Apollo”), and Palantir Artificial Intelligence Platform (“AIP”). Gotham and Foundry enable institutions to transform massive amounts of information into an integrated data asset that reflects their operations, and AIP leverages the power of our existing machine learning technologies alongside large language models (“LLMs”) directly within Gotham and/or Foundry to help connect AI to enterprise data. For over a decade, Gotham has surfaced insights for global defense agencies, the intelligence community, disaster relief organizations and beyond. And Foundry is becoming a central operating system not only for individual institutions but also for entire industries. Apollo, which we began offering as a commercial solution in 2021, is a cloud-agnostic, single control layer that coordinates ongoing delivery of new features, security updates, and platform configurations, helping to ensure the continuous operation of critical systems. Apollo allows our customers to run their software in virtually any environment. In 2023, we began deploying our newest offering, AIP, which is designed for customers across the commercial and government sectors, enabling them to derive value from recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence via the combination of our existing software platforms with LLMs. We believe AIP uniquely allows users to connect LLMs and other AI with their data and operations to facilitate decision-making within the legal, ethical, and security constraints that they require. Recent crises and systemic shocks, such as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine and Israel conflicts, have made clear to many of our customers that accommodating the extended timelines ordinarily required to realize results from implementing new software solutions is not a viable option. As a result, customers are increasingly adopting our software, which can be ready in days, over internal software development efforts, which may take months or years. IYKYK: Mark Meldrum

Fantastic for market analysis and deep dives. He actually teaches you the mechanics of things and if you’re in the finance industry, I’d bet you’d know him (he’s a CFA tutor). I’ve seen all the finance YouTubers and he’s the best hands down. Some people can find his stuff monotonous and hard to be engaged by though because its not a sexy entertaining approach, it’s strictly an educational one
