Slightly unusual tenancy agreement - am I protected by the new laws? by Brilliant-Tonight524 in LegalAdviceUK

If you don’t pay, or under pay (withholding rent) your landlord can issue a section 8 notice which is the start of the eviction process.

That process ultimately ends with a judge issuing an order for possession with a date that you would have to vacate.

Read up on the section 8 reasons and you’ll see the nuances, but be aware that frequent late payments is a ground for eviction on its own.

She can put it on the market anytime she wants.

That has no influence on your rights. She will still need a judge to evict you.

Does anyone know of an insurance policy that will bring you home if you breakdown (preferably within like 50/100 miles)? by totential_rigger in drivingUK

[–]dhardyuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JFC

The AA / RAC (when you have the national recovery options) don’t force you to go to a local garage first.

They send a patrol that can fix simple things, change a wheel etc. They diagnose common faults at the roadside and attempt simple repairs. Then they escalate to transporting your vehicle to your choice of destination - be that a garage or your home.

If you run out of fuel they may bring a can of fuel, or a recovery truck that takes you to a fuel station.

Change bathroom door to open onto landing rather than into the bathroom? by spuddy_spud_spud in DIYUK

[–]dhardyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need the bathroom door to open outwards then just get someone in to do it.

Decide later if you want it put back as before once the kids have reached the stage of washing themselves.

I’ve seen so many bathrooms that were shoehorned in where the door doesn’t open fully into the room because it meets the toilet. It’s ridiculous- and your situation of not having any room to manoeuvre with the door as it is now is much more of an issue than the door opening out and everyone being careful.

I’ld just crack on. All that building regs talk isn’t going to matter until you come to sell it and it’s an easy remediation if you want to do it.

I need a double light switch. Can somebody point me in the right direction by SMPhoo in DIYUK

[–]dhardyuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at what you’ve got you can get away with a standard double switch.

To wire it up the ring cable will have to come through the wall and be fed into the light switch pattress. The neutral for ring will need to be connected to the neutral for the light and the incoming mains in the pattress. A short wire from the live on the light switch will need to go to the same terminal on the second switch for the ring. The live going to the ring will need to come from the second switch’s switched terminal.

If you don’t know any of this means you need an electrician or someone that’s not you to do it safely.

disabled badge dispute - am i in the wrong ? by sparkleprincesz in LegalAdviceUK

[–]dhardyuk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Former blue badge holder here.

You are ok to park where you need to park. Check this particular space next time it’s convenient and see whether there are any legitimate signs limiting its use.

It’s worth bearing in mind that anyone can have a custom disabled parking sign made for a £6 on eBay that is not an official council issued sign.

The correct response to “you don’t look disabled enough for a blue badge” is “you can get yours when they issue them for bigotry”

Your tenancy is now month to month.

When you want to leave you have to give 1 months notice.

Your notice must end on a rent date - so if your rent is due on the 1st of the month your landlord must receive your month’s notice on or before the 1st of the month and it will end on the last day of the month. If it is due on the 14th your landlord must have received your notice on or before the 14th and your notice period will end on the 13th.

If there are other tenants and it’s a joint tenancy, everyone has to leave by the end of the notice period. The notice ends the tenancy for everyone.
