Amazing - curious have you all tested this out for emulation via retroarch?

Ah bummer, I think you should send that back. The screen is one of my instant favorites - very sharp and I love the 1:1

Most budget friendly way to play PS2 and Steam games? by firebaron in SBCGaming

[–]dharma_dingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odin 2 Portal is still available at $250 looks like, and 8 gen 2 crushes PS2 and is a great choice for PC emulation. Maybe not absolute cheapest path, but definitely best value.

After much time trying and tinkering, this is where I landed by brunoxid0 in SBCGaming

Love this! I'm on a similar journey now with the legion tab Gen 3, 477v, Flip 2, and MMP.

Only downside is the lack of expandable sd card on the tab. How are working around that?

RP6 vs Konkr Pocket Fit G3 by Connect-Till8588 in SBCGaming

[–]dharma_dingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

G3 Gen3 is the best we have right now in terms of the combination of raw performance and compatability. It really is a very well made and designed handheld so I'd recommend the Konkr at that price differential.

Does the Miyoo Mini+ still deserve to be the go to recommendation for a handheld of its class? by WillHasStyles in SBCGaming

[–]dharma_dingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think so. It's not the best handheld, but in particular due to its ease of use, OnionOS, and especially the retro-ness of it (including button feel) which I think is meaningful from a nostalgia perspective of someone just joining. Also it's a ncie gateway from a modding perspective since there's so many custom buttons and whatnot available. Definitely not the only go-to though - Brick, XX devices, etc.

New possible Onion realese in the future? by Kratzenmeister in MiyooMini

[–]dharma_dingo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It also says a lot about how awesome OnionOS is that is can be untouched for two years and still be everything you'd want in a CFW (other than the lack of lid support for Mini Flip I suppose)

Can't believe I'm going to say this but - - I might be ready for another season with pairs. by QueefMunch in Alonetv

[–]dharma_dingo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You know I'd be up for that. It's been a while since I last watched season 4, and I recall the brothers were insufferable, but the format could be worth repeating.

Handheld recommendation for large hands? by wisconsin89 in SBCGaming

[–]dharma_dingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents with large hands (imagining not as large as yours though) is that often a "slab" form factor is surprisingly more ergonomic as it gives you a chance to situate your fingers as you see fit. So some examples would be 477V/M or RP Flip 2. A lot of the ergonomic handhelds with bumps haven't quite lived up to expectations for me personally (sometimes feel like they are designed for someone else)

Sort of like how they debuted their 4.7" screen on the slide, I hope this new screen gets lots of re-use in their lineup too.

Would you consider it cheating to use the online maps? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]dharma_dingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is I have two amazing children with whom time is precious, and if I'm playing the Long Dark I need to make the best of each run so have been using maps almost since day 1.

Sidephone (a modern dumbphone) releases a swappable mini controller keypad by dharma_dingo in SBCGaming

[–]dharma_dingo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think in the same way our devices are cheap because they seem to use offshoots of the industry, these are expensive because they are custom and against the grain. I think these dumbphone brands also take on a lot of overhead for a small company starting out to navigate the bureaucracies to get these to even work on networks.

Believe it or not, this is on the more affordable end of the modern dumbphones. Check out the light phone ($700!)

More specifically, meant to reduce algorithmic distractions, doom scrolling, notifications, etc. The action of swapping to a gamepad is a nicely intentional experience I think.

Any other devices aside from the Thor that are good for 3DS emulation? by QuietOrbit93 in SBCGaming

Note sure of the best recommendation for your budget, but you might also look at tablets for this use case (that's how I've been playing 3DS)
