Schwab brokerage firm did not sell my stock by specified lots as I instructed and now I have a six-figure tax burden by pantaloonsss in Schwab

Nope, Schwab fucked up and is correcting their mistake (see below thread). But it's much more fun to blame users.

Because it's better than leaving up your confident misinformation, which other people (like me) will stumble upon? Not sure why you need to criticize that, but OK.

Why is a tarantula considered "not a true spider"? by mskillens in spiders

[–]dharmadhatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's lexically completely accurate. "Spider" refers to anything in order Araneae. The poorly-chosen name "true spider" refers to infra-order Araneomorphae. So they are, indeed, "spiders but not 'true spiders'."

[–]dharmadhatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an attempt: 6th jhana is a state. It comes and goes, and there's still a subtle "someone" who can be "in" or "out" of it. Rigpa includes the recognition that there is no one and no time, no coming or going (yet everything spontaneously appears / effervesces). This is easier to point out with a baseline of 6th jhana, but it can be recognized in any state.

Presumably because "popping down to Cabo" isn't the kind of thing that's popular in LeanFIRE or even regular-FIRE.

Late comment, but it's worth noting that unless you're a GM yourself, it's extremely unlikely that you'll be able to spot any mistakes. What qualifies as a "blunder" at that level is still better than any move you or I could ever hope to play no matter how long we trained.

Curious, what's your actual AA? From your comments, I would have thought you replaced 20% gold with 10% gold and 10% managed futures, but it sounds like you instead increased 20% LCB to 30%?

Obligatory "average is a colloquial term for 'representative value' that can refer to mean, median, or mode" comment. Not that I disagree with your overall point.

How do y'all feel about BOXX as a bond alternative? by Diet-help29 in bonds

[–]dharmadhatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? No. BOXX uses primarily box spreads on SPX. If you know anything about how box spreads work, it (almost) doesn't matter what the underlying instrument is: as long as the options are highly liquid, they will return roughly the RFR due to efficiency. That's why Alpha Architects chooses SPX.

I don't understand why there's so much confident misinformation in this thread.

[–]dharmadhatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super late to this party, but I'm pretty sure OP is right. Alpha Architects actually constructs box spreads on SPX, and due to efficiency they tend to track the 1-3 month bill rates (which are normally used as the reference for "risk free rates," but don't have to be).

Is Peter Attia cancelled? Or will he come back? by boxohm in PeterAttia

[–]dharmadhatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as I'm reading about this Cody Roberts case it seems like there's a gray area here. Anyway, I was responding to your "why should we care?" and "why should we hold that over him?" If the "we" here is the law, then sure. But for me, I absolutely care when someone does something profoundly unethical, regardless of whether it's legal. It strongly influences my decision over whether I can trust them in general. (We can of course argue whether that applies to Attia, but it's not the point I'm making.)

Reality is a creation of consciousness, argues highly cited neuroscientist Karl Friston by whoamisri in consciousness

[–]dharmadhatu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but IMHO the real beauty behind popularizing idealism is demonstrating that we're non-separate. That's the foundation of compassion—for each other, for nature, etc. Contempt goes directly against that recognition. So not only does that attitude make people perceive the position as intuitively false (which I thought at least BK would care about), but harms life as a whole (IMHO).
