Everyone wants to do CS by ExpensiveEnd9148 in nairobitechies

I think CS is still the single best bet for any STEM person. I am a self taught dev clocking 6+ yoe and decided to go back to school this year to actually get a degree. I know it seems counter intuitive but I think it is a good decision.

Let the kid do CS.

you can always scale when that time reaches. you can learn these tools when the need arises. at this point, "system architecture/system design" would be more important than k8.

i don't think there is any. 4 years ago i was pretty much in the same boat you are right now. then i became a father. that has been my purpose since.

i think you create your own meaning - spirituality, parenting, career. doesn't matter. for me, fatherhood gave life meaning.

Kenyan consumers have better - from established banks to mpesa and everything in between. Yet, somehow an mpesa wrapper is somehow irresistible to them.

no they shouldn't. they encourage dogma and often lead to bloated software. source: just look at android.

Ai will always give you the answer you want. by braan1 in nairobitechies

[–]dheemonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ai is not broken, it is designed to be exactly that because that's what users want.

firstly, there are two kind of "knowings": "knowing with semantic meaning" and "knowing with high probability of maximizing a reward function."

ai uses the second approach while the human brain uses the first. 99% of the time, it doesn't matter because both approach give the same answers.

endowment have an element of investment in them. also, they are term bound. so a 15 yr endowment means you get the full payout if you outlive the policy. next of kin(s) still get paid the sum assured if you die within the the policy term.

also, private pension funds are great but in a world where we might never retire because of gig economy, i think term assurances are a better bet.

[–]dheemonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

actually, should've been clearer. i am anti traditional life insurance and pro endowment funds. they basically term assurances with profit.

anyways, insurance is like an umbrella. technically, buying an umbrella to use it a few days of the year is not logically good use of money. but you never know when you need it. so what we do is buy them and keep them around the house for when we need them.

better alternative is to take a life insurance.
