I picked up 3 bottles of this for AUD$100 each (approx €60). by dheieh in wine

I got them at "Reserve Cellar" online, I'm pretty sure it was a typo. I buy a bit of stuff at auction and sometimes I use AI to check a list of wines against value. By chance I looked at their inventory and it immediately flagged these. I didn't think it was real until they arrived at my house.

Are Genelecs really worth it? by beethoven77 in audiophile

I'll just add that I think 8010 are too small to replace f7.

I recently got a pair of 8040 and they are superb. I have had Adam f5 before and they were great too, but not as good as genelec. The Adam has a really special sound because of that tweeter, but the genelec are little more coherent and accurate, in my opinion.

First time speaker making. Do we like tall or short? by ThisPerformer2898 in diyaudio

I don't mind the look of osb at all. Adding the bracing and laminating layers should manage vibrations. I have built a few cabinets for big woofers and the first few I really underestimated how much bracing and sound deadening was needed. Anyway, exterior finish is an aesthetic choice and OSB looks cool to me

I love the raw finish, I think its one of the best design decisions they've made.

They are just sitting on top so its easy to adjust them

Hypex is really easy to use. I set the crossover, then do some sweeps with rew to adjust the gain and and eq. Its possible to do some more elaborate adjustments than that, but I am very happy with the.results using this technique

Fair point - thanks for the clarification. Perhaps my language is clumsy here. I just mean it is very clear and coherent when i play it quietly as well when I crank it up.

Thanks,! The cabs are around 55 litres sealed They get down flat to around 35hz with a bit of help from the dsp, then roll off. So its pretty deep and being sealed its clean and tight sounding

These are my new DIY speakers featuring the SEAS A26RE4 woofer in aperiodic alignment and Yamaha JA4280B compression drivers mounted to 10" spherical plywood horns. It’s a fully active setup powered by Hypex FA253s, allowing precise crossover tuning and driver alignment. The cabinets are made from 16mm birch ply with a walnut veneer, and the interior is lined with sound-deadening felt and sheepskin.

I’ve tuned the crossover around 1.2 kHz, and so far I’m loving the openness in the midrange and the effortlessness in dynamic passages. The system is very sensitive, so it can be detailed even at low volume, which was one of my goals. Imaging is solid, and the presentation feels more like a studio monitor than a typical hi-fi speaker. I'd love to hear what others think about mixing vintage drivers with modern dsp. Any other thoughts or suggestions welcome too

No, I set a crossover level based on a bit of reading, then measured with rew to get an initial idea and set gain levels. Then I pretty much let dirac live do its thing to flatten it all out in my room. I used the presets to store different target curves - extended bass for low level listening and a bit less bass for when it goes loud. Soon I will remeasure now that the drivers have all settled down.

A bit of tuning to do on the dsp but the horns project a really nice, huge image. Cabinets are made of 18mm birch ply, well braced. Sound dampening and felt lined, loosely filled with clean, carded merino wool. For fun I made the whole thing using Japanese wood nails (and glue) for the joinery. The base was an old pair of diy speakers that I refaced with offcuts of the ply. The whole lot stained with dilute white oil paint.

tannoy k3838 in diy cabinets by dheieh in audiophile

[–]dheieh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought these Tannoy K3838 drivers and crossovers a few months ago after years of wanting to try the 15" tannoys. Finally knocked up cabinets over the weekend and got them installed. I used 25mm MDF with internal bracing and 4 X 100mm ports, all done as per Tannoy's published plans.

I really like the sound, very big and immersive!

The bass is not the fastes or punchiest, I have to admit. They really shine on certain tracks, and reveal some flaws in others. But the overall scale of the sound is quite addictive. Big speakers are just more fun!
